is it just me or is it kinda dead in East TX. Huntin wood county only seen two does since openin day

I agree with you, they seem to be on acorns only. My cameras at the feeders have very few pictures in Harrison County.

I live in Hunt County, and hunt in Shelby County ( SNF ), deer moving in both, took a 3 yr. old 8-point on Wed. the 12th. in SNF. at 9:05am. with 2-mature does in tow. He was rutting and grunting his head off till I shot him. Something will come up soon, things seem to be slower than normal this time of the season, last year the rut was on big during the opener of gun.

Hopkins county here and they haven't been hitting my two feeders very much. They're around as they hit it every now and then and I see them pass by about 100 yards from it when hunting.

Our small property in Rusk county has been pretty active. Not really hitting the feeders so ive been hand corning on the trails where i need them to stop with pretty good success. Food plots are starting to get hit pretty good at night mostly. Bucks are still chasing pretty good to.

One buck I saw looked like he was cruising for does. Nothing else except those under the feeder.

I've seen more deer in my food plot this year than I can remember. I also switched from hunting it with an open tripod to a more concealed ground blind. With the rain we've had, I've never had a better food plot.

I planted a combination of oats, turnips and mustard greens, along with a small bag of mixed blend that I caught on sale.

Today at about 4:30 in Harrison County. I've had more activity this season than the last 3 combined.

Ivee seen far fewer deer than any of the last 4 years. BUT, Ive seen 10x more bucks this year.

I should add that as a general rule, deer sightings always go down in East Texas a few weeks into the season once the deer seem to learn people are after them. While I continue to see deer hitting my food plot, they are definitely more wary and act like they've been shot at, even though that probably isn't the case. I do believe they respond to the increased human presence that hunters bring in terms of sight, sound, and smell. The same things they ignored on Opening Day, now push them more towards alarm.

Now is the time when less frequent hunting during the middle of the week is your best bet. And be sure to keep it quiet and eliminate any unnecessary sounds such as ATV's, slamming truck doors, or loud talking that might alarm them to your presence.

We haven't seen anything yet in Northern Smith County. The game camera on the feeder is just showing one group of hogs that come in around midnight to eat the corn. It goes off in the morning and sits there all day long without being touched. The food plot is thick with tracks, and right after the rain, there where fresh tracks all over it. We thought for sure they would have bedded down during the night and be out first thing in the morning, but they are still totally nocturnal.

well the moon is gone and that little snow flurry last night i thought would help but nothin both times today the wind is gettin it maybe in the morning I done abandoned the stand and feeder huntin big hay meadow were theres good tracks on the fence line lots of oak trees lots of acorns

It's been dead for me as well.

I have the same set of doe hitting the feeder regularly morning and afternoon. Only bucks I have seen were grazing in plot and never touched corn.

There are alot of small acorns.

Shouldnt be to long with these early frost before they sour and start turning back to corn again.

Think it will be later season, but then again one guy in Lindale harvested a 158 this last weekend

I saw a buck third day of season, late in the morning, we ran into each other as I was walking ATV trail back to my truck, since then all photos (cameras are on game trails to and from oak trees)of any legal bucks have been at night, 9 pm to 3 am range. I am in the middle of taking 10 days off away from the land, see if they settle in and hopefully get more leaves off the trees so I can see more area.

The acorns are everywhere, trying to pin a spot down for that is just pure luck, hopefully the does in heat get the bucks to make a mistake and get out of the vampire routine.

I think east texas is going to be a late season producer this year, just the weather we had, it changed things up with the over abundance of food. I have white oaks that have been visited by a deer, they have that many to choose from.

My son did see a buck chasing a doe out of my blind last Sunday morning
but he never got a good look at the buck.
The area is heavily wooded at my blind and a lot of leaves
still haven't fallen.

I sure hope more leaves have dropped by this weekend and into next week. I am bringing my chain saw, there a few small trees I will just drop, I can stand to open up my firing lanes up more anyway. Maybe that will bring me luck, anytime I am working out there the deer always seem to show up later to investigate, especially after I run the mulcher.

I have 3 or 4 doe and a couple yearlings coming in to one feeder regularly. A questionable 8 pointer and a 4 pointer show up occasionally at the feeder I killed my 10 point at. My other feeder 1/8 mile away has nothing coming. Corn piled up on the ground so I turned it off. Had a pic of a doe walking by outside the fence, but didn't come in. ????? too many acorns. Hopefully this last rain will cause them to sour.

I hunted this last weekend in the Marshall/Caddo Lake area saw a noticeable change in movement from previous weeks. I checked my 5 cameras and each one had new bucks on them we have never seen. Past movement had been mostly night time but it now looks like more daytime movement has started. All the deer seem to be hitting the feeders and food plots more as well. Saturday morning I had a young buck chasing a group of doe so things seem to be getting started. Here are a couple of new bucks we are seeing. Similar deer but on two different farms.

Over the last 2-3 weeks I've seen a few new bucks. They showed up once and didn't stick around but for a minute. Deer aren't hitting my feeder regularly either. I know they're here because I've seen them pass right by in the meadow and just keep on like nothing is there.

Got to say that I screwed up Sunday. Planned to go hunting but fished instead. We saw 3 bucks chasing does on the way to the lake and 2 more around noon on the way home. how's a girl to know!

I feel sorry for the first legal deer that gets in my crosshairs.

I hunt in Wood Co. also. I hunted 6 times in bow season and saw zero. I have been 6 more times now since gun season opened and I have seen 1 marginal 2 year old 8 point and one lone doe. Slow is an understatement.
