So I met my Grandfather-In-Law (Mac) back in 2006 and we quickly hit if off because we both liked guns, hunting and fishing. We have made several duck hunting, goose hunting, dove hunting and deer hunting trips over the years and he has always put me first. He would always put me in the "best" deer stands or locations to ensure I got a shot at something. He enjoyed to see me be successful. He is the guy that is sitting in the duck blind, smoking a cigar, drinking coffee, saying, "watch the birds on the left, they are coming in." Never putting down his coffee or cigar down once the birds hit the decoys. Well he is starting to get up in age, he will be 80 yrs old in December and making these trips is starting to take a toll. He decided that this was going to be his last year on the deer lease that he has been apart of for nearly 30 years. So we made the trip down to the deer lease this year and made a few memories to last a life time. I have been going down to the deer lease with him since 2006 and during that time he has shot several hogs, and a few turkeys but he never shot any deer. He would always tell me he just liked to watch the deer, but almost always let me know that he let a monster walk right through his shooting lane. So this year one of the other lease members let us have access to his 4x8 blind, with a low pitch double handle ladder, landing porch and full size door, so that Mac could easily get in and out of the blind. I dropped Mac off at the blind and got him settled in, I hadn't got all the way out of the blind when I heard the lighter strike up as he lit up his cigar. I went down the road a few hundred yards to sit over water to hunt for hogs. About an hour later I hear a shot, so I drive back to see either the hog or turkey that Mac shot. Well to make a long story short, Mac shot a really nice 10 pt buck. He was as happy as a kid on Christmas. I was so proud of him it brought a tear to my eye. Here is Mac with his first buck in 10 years+, cigar still in hand!

Oh yeah, I shot a buck too! Largest buck of my life gross score 156-7/8" We made some pretty good memories on this trip!

Congrats to you both cheers
Mac sounds like a great man and friend.
Take Mac's place on the lease. This way at anytime Mac gets the itch to go hunting or just sit by the campfire you can take him with you up
