So I get out of the stand to use the bathroom at the cabin.. I do my business and I'm on the front porch and two doe jump the fence followed by the big 10 we have pics of! I grab my gun and shooting sticks .. He is trotting at bout 80-100 yards.. He stops for a second and boom.. I miss!!!!.. He runs off and I try to get a shot while he is trotting off but miss again.. He catches up to the does.. Stops Jumps fence and is gone.. (Still in our place tho)... I don't get how I missed!! Shoulda been a chip shot.. I guess I rushed it.. I don't know I'm just upset!!.. I did look for him to make sure for hour and half almost but no hair, blood, deer, nothing.... Maybe he will come back this evening because the way he came from when I shot seems to be his home territory..

Better to miss than make a bad shot!!! As long as the ladies are around, he'll still be around!!!

We'll that sux. It does give you that bad feeling in the gut to see the one you've been wanting then go through all that. But, it makes it that much better when you finally get him in your sights. rifle Good luck.

This same scenario happend at our place about 5 years back.. He came through at about 50 yards from camp.. everyone was shocked and only one guy was smart enough to grab the rifle and let one fly. Well he missed and over the next couple weeks, that deer kept growing in our heads. We thought we saw this big 12-14pt buck in the 150 class just trot through as we were hanging out mid day at camp.
Well, the week of thanksgiving, one of the guys got him about a mile from our camp and turned out to be just as big as we all imagined. .. Main frame 10 with split brows and a split kicker off the right G2.
Stay positive.. he's still out there.

We all have bad days...a miss is better than a bad hit and a deer that isn't found.

Just try and shake it off (I know you wont be able to do that easily) and keep hunting. Worry and being depressed wont help anything.

Unfortunately, it happens. Slow down and take a big breath next time he steps out. Then eat his backstraps for dinner.

PS - RAB - that is so wrong. roflmao

How are you sure you missed? A whole lotta deer don't leave a blood trail when shot. Especially high or gut shots. Which can easily occur when soothing off sticks at moving targets.

Shot a doe last yr with a 300 win mag and after the shot she did a few hops and went into the woods like I missed her ..found very little blood and 80 yards later she was found by a bush where she died.. Shot went in left should blew out right and when I gutted her a chunk of her heart was gone.. Just amazing what they can handle...

Confirming you shoot at a standing still deer and then you shoot at a trotting deer. Yes I hope you did miss.

Thanks. We all thought we had seen that kicker, so knew it was him.. Not somthing we had typically seen on our property.. This was in Houston County.
