Ended up with 3 man limits of pintails, wigeons and redheads. Oh and a bonus mottled duck

just a guess.. I couldn't tell you without being able to see the speculum. yall are better duck id'ers than I am!

White stripe on the speculum = mallard hen. I didn't see it until Jon Paul pointed it out.

Not to mention a Mottled Duck is much darker overall than a mallard hen. You should be able to cut the wings off a Mottled Duck and Mallard hen, lay them next to each other and tell the difference in the two. They don't even look remotely similar.

I could see someone mistaking a Black Duck for a Mottled Duck or a Mexican Mallard for a Mottled Duck but a Mallard Hen for a Mottled Duck? Come on...

we've shot some mallards and woodies in Matagorda in the main bay. Been a WEIRD start so far

I have shot greenhead drakes out in the salt flats before. I wouldn't say it was rare just not common at all. If JP had not stated it, I would never have caught that.

My buddy has a nice mallard drake he shot near matagorda a few years back. He also got a nice woodie drake out there opening morning this year.
