Looking at possible relocation to the area around College Station and just wondering how the waterfowl hunting is within an hours drive of College Station. Not looking for specific locations or lakes just a general idea of the hunting in that area. Thanks for any info!

I have a duck lease there. There are not a lot of ducks in the area. You have to be right on the money to have them. Obviously my place is not, right on the money.

There's always one in every group. I guess in this case, you guys travel in pairs.

That is pretty much what it was like when I lived in Tyler. I had a few good spots though. I kind of figured that College Station would be similar since it is in line with Tyler and there really isn't a major river near by. Thanks for the info Wal.

I will be in CS the first couple weeks of December and plan on trying the Katy Prarie area. Not that much further then your hour. The Brazos and Navasota both run pretty close to CS btw.

I hunt a friends ranch that I live on during the week when I am up there working. It butts right up to the Navasota River and there are two flats that have dead oaks from flooding that have low areas that stay flooded from overflow from a creek that runs off the Navasota. There are more wood ducks out there than I have ever seen before. The guys that also hunt don't even shoot at them anymore. It is not a hunt a few times a week place but you can hunt it once a week and shoot 3-4 man limits every time. Here are some hunts from last year.

Didn't mean any offense, just noting my observation.

Navasota river bottom, Brazos river bottom, also Lake Somerville isn't too far away. Done decent there before, but there is a lottery system for blinds and mostly the ducks raft up out in open water.

You have to get in with the right folks because most everything is private. The number of birds is directly dependent on if the Navasota floods at some point and fills up all the little wetlands in the river bottom. This has a big impact on the total number of ducks for right around the B/CS area.

There are always a few kicking around regardless. Best of luck!
