Looking for your input on those airboat non-guided outfits that run the coast... Let me know what y'all have experienced and who you'd recommend for a day hunt or two.

Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

We used this guy a couple years ago, it was fun. Just a boat ride to a comfortable blind with decoys out already.

I'm sure there are plenty of others, just never did this kind of trip again. Not that I wouldn't, just hasn't lined up.

I have gone with these guys 5 or 6 times for an annual landman duck hunt some guys put on every year. If getting dropped off an hour and a half before shooting light and killing 2 redheads is your idea of a good time then give them a call.

Those guys have been around forever.

Funny how every point and cove has a blind and several dozen decoys out all season long. I'd like to see people try that in the DFW area.

I was referring to the response people would show even if it was legal. Those decoys or blinds wouldn't last long.

I think "technically" decoys left on the coast are still considered abandoned property and could legally be snatched up.

Locals would likely go cowboy on someone if they caught them taking decoys though.

I've used this guy in Rockport/Aransas Pass before and have no complaints. John Paul is right though, you'll likely be dropped off early because he shuttles several groups out to blinds before legal shooting time. Getting 2 redheads is easy then you have to be really careful not to shoot anymore because they swarm like mosquitos while you wait for other species. Its almost a guarantee that you'll be visited by the game warden.

well, where I hunt up here, I get there three hours prior to LST and get skunked... so a pair of redheads and skimming over the marsh in an airboat does sound like a pretty cool vacation for me.

The two redheads have been a given on my hunts down. If you are lucky that day, some pintails. The waves of redheads are impressive, but lots of airboats running around and traffic, no longer a thrill for me.

There are a lot better options than paying $125 to get dropped off in an airboat to kill 2 redheads.

$125 is a lot of money for a ferry ride

They are all the same just call one and show up. I'm sure you will be dropped off in a blind that was blown out the day before, you will be just another sport to them. Get a guide that will set with you and actually work to get you some ducks. What's another $50, I mean you are already dropping a pile of cash on fuel, food, and lodging. Why skimp on the price of the one thing your after?

Ok, so is it possible for me to just throw my kayak up on the truck, find a public access point and get on some DIY ducks down there in the same areas???

If you have a kayak, bring it...

You could even hunt one of the few hundred blinds that are already built and decoyed if you wanted to.

With that said, the airboat ride is a good experience.

It's hard for someone who doesn't know the area to just bring all there stuff down and say I'm gonna hunt here tommorow, but that is what I recommend, I drive by hundreds Of thousands of redheads every day on the drive to work in December. That bein said there's hundreds of little spoil islands that are perfectly legal to hunt within a few hundred yards from the road. Yes it is a redhead fest but it's fun sometimes to watch the rafts of 10 thousand redheads get up when boats come through and you think something's on fire cuz it looks like smoke. Just can't miss your bonus birds, anything is a bonus bird except a redhead when you hunt open water like that,
Got a few buddies that are full time guides down here in corpus.

Cr Webb Is a great huntin and fishin guide and I believe does duck hunts for $125 or $150 and he's there with you the whole time. He likes to find where the birds really want to be and enjoy the hunt too. Not just make a dollar off you. Great guy
