Why do I need one and which one should I get?

It is beneficial once you start shooting beyond about 500-600 yards. You can still shoot accurately with a slight cant out that far. But beyond that, cant becomes a factor.

I run the cheap bubble level that was like $15 from a company that no longer makes them. It works fine for me. It clamps onto the picatinny rail. I like the anti cant level mounted on the side of the scope down low so I can see it while still looking through the glass. If it's on top of the scope, you have to raise your head off the stock to see it. Kind of defeats the purpose, IMO.

If you showed up for the class and didn't have one I'd put mine on your scope base. As Chad stated, once you go (in my observation) outside 400 you'll need it. Everything becomes a factor, and you want as many variables eliminated as possible beyond the quarter mile mark. Last student I had on Saturday was having fits at 500. I checked the levelness of his scope and adjusted his anti-cant level. Then we started hitting. For me, years ago, it was 600 plus. Once I started leveling I started getting more hits.

Also, as Chad stated I like it mounted on the pic rail as I can see it with my non-glassing eye without breaking position.

I have a US Optics and a JEC Customs swivel level. The JEC is significantly better.
