I've hunted that area for 40+ years and have never seen nor heard of one being on the radar.

Call the TPWD hotline and let them know about it.

Lived and hunted Waco area for 30+ years. Never seen one that far east. I've only seen them a good distance west and southwest from Waco.

Saw my first one in Mills County 85 miles east of Waco last year. Been two more spotted since then by other hunters. They were all headed east. grin

I can just hear my old man raising hell about porcupines.

If one of his Corgi's shows up with a quill in its nose, there will be one less porcupine in his neck of the woods.

Closest I've seen them was around Lake Aquilla a few years back. Wouldn't be surprised to see them in Waco/McLennan County though.

This is their mating season so that means lots more ranging especially at night.

There were two pet porcupines at the State Fair this year. Giant black guinea pigs. With armor.

Porcupines have been in Central TX for some years now. They are on Ft. Hood, in the Georgetown area and also in Burnet Co. I am sure they are widely spread now. My neighbor down the road had a juvenile in her horse barn just a couple of weeks ago. Where there are juvies adults can't be far off.

10 years ago I'd never seen a live one in Texas. Since then, especially in the last 5 years, I have seen several - Val Verde county, Boerne, Fredericksburg, Abilene (Blackwell), Memphis, and even have one in my 'hood in Plano.

Don't know if they are all the same species, but seeing one now doesn't even raise an eyebrow.

Put up a protein feeder and they will find you if they are anywhere close. I used to kill them around my protein feeders in Kendall County in the early 90's. Had 3 at one feeder one evening when I went by it. After the floods in the late 90's I saw one dead on HWY 624 east of Cotulla and seen video of one in a tree on Yo Lo Digo Creek in Frio County. Seen one 2 years ago west of Fort Stockton and got him on TC at a water trough. Told a friend in just outside Wimberly when putting up 3 protein feeders that if he had any of them they would find the protein. He laughed then 3 months later said he saw one dead on the highway west of town about 3 miles.

See them all the time where I'm at now, panhandle. Really laid back animals you really have to mess with them to get them to fight back. I would be too with those quills, nobody want to mess with you. One thing I did learn from the old timers around here is that the make really good bait for bobcat traps.

Probably go back to what it once was rather than expanding new.

To be determined

I saw one dead just south of Copperas Cove this past summer. First one I'd ever seen too.

Finally saw one a couple of years ago while on a TP&W hunt at South Llano State Park. Took me a minute to figure out what the heck it was since I had no idea they were in Texas.
