Well I must say that elk hunting is a lot harder than I thought. Got this 5x5 opening day of the first rifle season near Granby, CO. Took me three hours to skin, quarter, and haul all of him 125 yards from a meadow to a logging road. 14 trips total. We then put him on a buck cart and pushed it three miles back to the truck at 9500 ft altitude. I thought I was in half way decent shape until that moment. Wow! It was hard to breathe! Great trip and had alot of fun.

I love Elk. My first was the same size. Hooked on elk now!

I wish stupidity was not so handsomly rewarded.

I have learned one essential thing needed for elk hunting.
Horses!
After having them for most of my life on a ranch I decided years ago the only true use for a horse is hunting or navigating the mountain wilderness.

Congrats on the first elk. I hunted a lot of years up there before I took a bull.

You happen to run into a guy by the name of Sneaky up on the mountain?
