I started this build about two month ago, and it is moving slowly but surely. I started out with a 110ga propane tank and some 1/4 steel and went from there. All of the cutting is complete, and I will start welding next weekend hopefully.

Looking good. I build a smoker out of a tank like that in HS and the first cut on it is always the scariest.

Definitely is... I filled it with water and dawn soap about three times within a week. I pushed water out of it until I couldn't smell anything.

I think the reverse flow is the way to go in an offset. Mine runs steady 225 degrees, throw a couple hunks of pecan in once an hour and forget about it.

When I did mine I filled it with water and let it set for a week, then drained it, then filled with water and soap again for a week and let it sit, then drained and fill with straight water and made the first cut with it full of water. The water made it a pain to cut but all I did was cut the pipe out of the top and then it was okay from there on.

Looks great. I look forward to seeing your progress.

I've heard that running a hose/tube from a running vehicle (or anything producing carbon monoxide) tail pipe into the tank will eliminate the chance of it exploding.

What do you make your cuts with?
