I got to looking in 2 of my different loading books the Nosler and the Berger for my 6.5-284 Norma, the Nosler is stating max load is 55.0 H4350 @ 96% and Berger is showing 46.8 H4350 @ 84%. Hodgdon website shows 45.0 for max. The % is not adding up to the powder difference cause that's a big difference. Thanks for any help.

The Nosler data is very high especially for a manual as conservative as the Nose one. Sounds like one to call Nosler about.

55 grains of H4350??? You sure you don't mean 45? I don't know how you can get 55 grains in that case with a 140.
Either way, yes, there will be a variance from most manuals. The 6.5x284 will be one that has a large difference. If you google some loads, you can find some good data with the 140's. I've mainly played with 4831 and R22, and a little 4350. I've had good results with 4831.

H4831 is my powder of choice for the 6.5-284 with 140 gr bullets.

It is rare for manuals to agree but that is a big difference.

Most big difference in 6.5-284 data is which version they are giving. One version is for a short action while others can be for long action. I think the samii version is long action.

I normally like to compare between two different manuals. The H4831 and the H4831SC was my next recipe so I may look into that. Thanks for the help guys it just through me for a loop on my starting. I'm just gonna start at 45g and go up from there and check the markings on my cases to see when I'm reaching that max.

I tend to check two manuals and Hodgdon for powder charge spread. Then I go with the lowest of the low end and the highest of the high end, but I wouldn't in this case. I would trust kmon1 and Chad's data more than the manuals anyway.

Just looked at the Nosler Volume 6 data and the max listed for H4350 is 55 grains with a 100 grain bullet and H4350 is not listed for 140 grain bullets in that manual.
I have actually only played with H4831SC in my 6.5-284, accuracy has been good enough not to want to look further. With 140gr VLD seated out to kissing the lands in my long action I start getting pressure signs @ 52.5 grains which is .5 grains below Noslers max listed load for that powder and bullet weight. Best accuracy in my rifle has been with 51.5 grains with that combination and for a lower velocity accuracy node 48.7 grains. Both of those loads seem to shoot the same for me accuracy wise about 1/3moa and are almost exactly 200fps apart in velocity. Rifle I am working with is a Cooper 52 with a 24 inch barrel

6.5-284 being a twin to my 6.5-06 may I suggest IMR 4831. Mostly have used 125 Nosler Partitions in this gun on Texas (ands few Louisiana) deer with great results.
