I have hunted out of plywood blinds and had great hunts -.with zero brush

I believe that movement - or lack of is more critical.

Your thoughts boys? I have spent close to 10 hrs brushing 3 blinds last week w killer weed, bamboo panels etc. not sure if it makes that much of a difference. Maybe on late season birds- as long as there is no "shine" to it.

Yeh, I usually duck hunt in a orange T shirt sitting on the bank....... Are you kidding me??

I have had the opportunity several times in the last few years to shoot the exact same hole well concealed the day following hunting it with a group of guys that thought concealment/brush/camo/paint or mask was over rated. In every case I had a much better, feet down in your face hunt. I guess there's something to hiding or ducks just decoy better on Sundays.

I think at first light ducks that plan on landing in the hole will land, just sit still.

But late morning, say 8:00AM on, cover is more important. One thing I learned last year hunting out of my momarsh, cover very important. More cover I added to my layout boat, better success I had.

It depends on the birds. I have had geese flare from a spread. As we all stood up, discussing what was wrong, a follow up group came right in. While we were standing up and then getting to the guns, they were coming in no matter what. I would rather brush in and cater to the wariest birds than just wait on the stupid birds.

If they are used to coming to that same hole for a week, I doubt they care much.

I've killed quick limits out of big, ugly, temporary blinds put up the morning of the hunt lots of times on private water.

I think if it is a permanent blind, they care even less.

With that said, I would say brushing in doesn't hurt.

Being well hidden, regardless of brush or plywood covering you up- is the key- I would say is consensus

For safety purposes I paint my plywood blinds orange.

Never seems to bother the ducks.

Better safe than sorry. That is my approach anyways.

Movement, then cover, then all the other crap people worry about like decoys, etc.

I watch RNT-V all the time so I KNOW the call is the most important thing. I could be standing in the dekes with Wal in front of ducknbass' orange blind and kill ducks as long as I'm hammering down constantly on the kazoo.

My experiences have taught me that there are unlimited conditions that can change the output of a hunt every time you go out even hunting the same spot. Remaining still applies differently depending on your location, natural surroundings, conditions such as open exposed banks, open water, timber, cattails, grass, sunny, cloudy, time of day, first 30 minutes, wind, early season, late season, fronts, public, private, the type of ducks you are decoying, etc... There are definitely times you can get away with very little concealment, but have to remain completely still, other times you don’t. Most have examples both ways. But overwhelming blending in the best you can to your natural surroundings using brush or whatever to cover your movements, or body outline, or blind outline, wrong color clothes someone is wearing, open faces, number of people hunting, dogs, open exposure to the sun, etc… is always going to overwhelmingly improve your odds and increase the success of your hunt. You can never have too much natural concealment. Make everything blend as natural as possible with your whole set up, blind, people, decoys etc… Looks like nothing but ducks are on the water. Even brush has to look natural to the surroundings especially once it dries out.

So two guys from country's the nazis over took think brushing a blind is unnecessary. High school world history is starting to make more sense

I've hunted in blinds with just camo paint, I've hunted behind a piece of camoed up plywood, I've hunted sitting in grass just off he bank, I've hunted in between leafless trees that were about 5ft tall, I've hunted laying down on the ground with a camo blacket on top of me, and I've shot many birds with people in the water retreiving birds. To me it depends on your movements, I try to stay as still as possible when I use ANY cover...........

If you wanna shoot ducks at 40 yards lay on the bank and don't move, if you wanna shoot their faces off brush up

Jeff, re read question- don't think u absorbed my question/,point- I brush the heck out of my floating and stationary blinds- I was differentiating between a fixed box blind and a well brushed blind-

I think it depends. If you are hunting a farm pond that ducks have been using day after day, it doesn't much matter. More likely than not they are dumping in. Have shot many limits while standing in the decoys picking up my first duck of the morning.

If you are hunting a heavily pressured lake, or larger bodies of water, the more brush, and the less blocky it looks the better off you will be.

Brush falls into the category of "better to have it and not need then need it and not have it".

To quote my grandfather, "poorly brushed blinds are simply a sign of laziness........"

We like to use bamboo over a base layer of fast grass. If the bamboo is stuck in moist ground it will de-color along with the natural surroundings but when dry will not loose their leaves.
