Got my new stand and feeder set up a few weeks ago. To make a long story, short, I've been hunting out of my brother in laws stand the past few years on my wife's family's place, and decided it was time for my own stand. It's around 75 yards to the feeder and already have some young bucks showing up and lots of pigs. Hoping to get back out next weekend to drop some pigs and check the cam again.

Thanks. I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas morning to come. I don't think I've been this excited about season to start in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I'm always excited about season starting up, but this year is a little more. I got the wife a new gun (I posted about in a thread in the ammo section), and I'm hoping she'll get more into hunting this year. Plus a new location...I'm ready for Nov. 1st lol

I got this guy last year on the same property. Hoping to get the wife onto something bigger.

Good deal ZK, and nice buck. I grew up hunting Freestone County and have always liked that area.

Thanks! That buck took me about 30 minutes to figure out if I wanted to drop him or not lol. I was back and forth on "look a shooter" and then "na, he's not big enough". My wife was hunting with me that day, and she was getting fed up with me changing my mind on him. I finally made up my mind due to the stickers on his right G2 and the split on the left G2

I've learned that the deer in Freestone co. are a bit different than where I've hunted in the past. Most of my hunting before Freestone, you hunted morning till the deer bed down (around 10 am), then went for an evening hunt from around 4 till dark. Where I'm hunting in Freestone co, you never know when they will be out. One day it's as soon as the sun comes up, other times they come out at 1 or 2 in the afternoon. There's been quite a few evening hunts I've been on my way out to the stand (in freestone co.) that I considered it being fairly early, around 2ish, and I see more deer out and about than when my feeders go off! I may shoot for some mid day hunts this year and see how my luck pans out haha

After bumping deer off my feeder on two consecutive days this weekend (once at 3 PM), I told my son we are going to be hitting the blinds early this year if the solar tables have peak feeding times during the day...cameras show the deer morning and evening for the 5 days prior to us showing up, but I think the deer might have been around more than the cameras showed??

^^I think you're right. Last year I ran a few off my feeder getting to my stand and was thinking I was plenty early to not do it. Sounds like some all day hunting is in store.

Good luck, ZK. Nice deer from last year. You might need to buy your BIL a bottle of his favorite beverage for letting you hunt his stand. And the corn for his feeder. 2cents

haha, I shot them a deer for some meat last year. He didn't get to hunt last year due to being in Afghanistan, but I may buy him a bottle anyways
