Opinions on buying say Nosler trophy grade 300 win mag ammo priced at ~55 per box or something middle of the road like say the Federal Fusion priced around 33-37 per box. This ammo isn't cheap but also isn't the most expensive. Do you get what you pay for in the magnum rounds?
Do you all think the more expensive rounds make that much difference?
I couldn't see them being that much more accurate at <200 yards but I could see how they might be a better round past the 200 mark.
Any opinions.
What im shooting.

I go for a quality bullet that I know and trust. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the rest as long as its a reputable manufacturer. If I'm overly concerned, say for a big hunt, then I'll probably be shooting handloads.

Depends on what you're hunting. Deer aren't hard to kill. For Texas deer, there's no néed for premium ammo in a 300 WM. if you're after bigger game, premium ammo may be worthwhile.

I don't think you need a perm my bullet in a 300mag for Texas, with that said I've been happy with the constancy of nose ammo

$20 more for a box of top notch ammo vs average ammo? No brainer. Most hunters don't go through a whole box in a year... Especially of magnum ammo. So compared to all the other costs of a hunting lease, it's a rounding error. Shoot the good stuff.

I've shot a Rem Sendero 300 winmag for about 10 years now. I started shooting Rem Corelokt 150 gr bullets and they out performed some of the premium stuff. I started reloading several years ago and went to 150 gr Scirocco II bullets. It wasn't because the Corelokts failed but I was really impressed with the Swift bullets and their performance on deer. I don't hunt whitetails with the 300 but muledeer in NM.

Shoot the good stuff. exactly, I can't believe people spend so much on rifle, lease, and gas to go cheap on the most important component. I don't correlate best with price, but with each rifle I like to test various brands to see what shoots best in that rifle. I found out my 30-06 couldn't shoot high dollar Federal worth anything, hard to even keep on paper and variances 4-5" per shot on shooting bench. After testing I have ended up shooting Barnes TTSX for the accuracy and ballistics. I have thought about going to hand loads, but want the best bullet I can OTC for shots under 500 yards.

I don't handload but my go to factory round in the 300 win is Federal Premium 180gr Nosler Partition. Tried and true

Find a good bullet that performs well and shoots accurately, be it $10 a box or $100. Rem Core Lokts are great bullets, how does your gun shoot them? I have a feeling the Federal Fusion are pretty good too. But if Rem Greenbox is 2" ammo and the Nosler is .75, I think that's a no-brainer. Buy a few boxes and see what the gun likes.

Sorry, let me clarify.
This question is mainly for longer shots.
Northern deer such as Illinois, Missouri and Alberta.

You won't be shooting at Illinois deer with a rifle...not legally, anyway. But even for big northern deer any 165 or 180 gr hunting bullet from a 300 mag is plenty. Try federal blue box, win power points and rem core lokts. If any of those are accurate enough to suit you, you're done OTOH, if your rifle doesn't "like" those or you just want to spend more money, you could move up to the premiums. You could also buy premium gas instead of regular...

I shoot a 300 wsm and it took me several types to find what it likes at range (4-500yds) for Elk. I ended up using the Remington Premier Scirocco Bonded in 180gr. Swift Scirocco. So far, 3 bulls, 4 rnds and still have 5 rnds from the 1st box.
My 7mm, loves the coreloks though

Geez... Ok let's amend again to northern deer in Missouri or Alberta.
Take the location out of this equation....
Shots over 200 do you think it's worth the extra money on premium grade ammo? Are they more accurate for any reason.

I'n that case shoot them both to 200. Most accurate is the winner

You'll never know if they are more accurate in your particular rifle until you try them.

It MIGHT be worth it, if your gun shoots it accurately and the premium round has a higher BC. You'll get less drop and buck the wind better. However, unless you're moving to performance handloads there isn't much guarantee that a low end load and high end load that shoot the same at 100 yards are going to shoot much differently at 400.

My old Remington 700 300WM eats Hornady Superformance 180 grain SST ammo like its going out of style. About 38 bucks a box from Natchez and it's very consistant.
Very deadly on Axis, Oryx, Elk and Wildebeast. So Far

Nosler trophy grade will look cooler. That is worth at least 20 bucks
