Have seen many good scrapes and rubs over the last couple of weeks. Still early but definitely a sign that things are beginning to heat up. It's when you first see the scrapes being left unworked that you know the madness has begun.

I am in Coke county and had a mature buck Friday morning come in and take off running does. It should really kick off in the next week or 2.

I think y'all might be a little early for the RUT, maybe some early does. Weather can make bucks a little wild but we're still 3-4 weeks away IMO.

Yes, particularly in the Eastern part of the state.

Where I hunt things are just heating up now, with bucks moving more during daylight hours checking scrapes and does. Halloween week and the first full week of rifle season are usually our best chances to tag a mature buck.

You can pretty much set your watch by this (within a few days either way) on my place in east TX:

Late Sept.-first week in October: trailing off summer patterns with bachelor herds breaking up but not much else different.
Oct. 8th-15th or so: little bucks begin cruising, making scrapes, harassing does mostly to no good purpose. Mature bucks drop out of sight.
Oct. 15th-Oct 25th or so: Bigger bucks begin scraping/cruising in earnest-does go mostly underground to avoid them since most are not ready.
Oct. 25th-Nov. 4th or so: major cruising with some intense chasing/rutting activity as does come in.
Nov. 4th-Thanksgiving: Be ready. Anything can happen anytime.

Of course, an early doe coming into heat can happen any time. Always a wild card.

On our East Texas lease, the bucks seem to nearly always be in full rut around the week of Thanksgiving.

I hunted Caddo Grasslands this past weekend, and did not see a single scrape or rub.

I've had 3 eight points coming in together to one of my feeders all this week and I have no pictures of bucks and does together yet...

The rut is for all intents and purposes over in brazoria co. Full swing in mid sept.

as I have stated in another thread, years ago my uncle used to go sit in his stand (central TX) after work starting late Sept. into Oct. until he first started seeing the bachelor groups breaking up and the younger bucks start chasing does, usually by mid-late Oct., he would mark it on his calendar and count 28 days forward, usually mid-late November and he wouldn't start hunting until that date on his calendar. This was back in the day when deer season started the first Saturday following Nov. 16 and there wasn't any archery season.

I would suspect some of the does are hitting their first estrous cycle now, which is part of the reason the bachelor groups are breaking or have broken up to chase a little "tail". It varies quite a bit across the state based on the TPWD study that Novemberyet listed. But general rule of thumb in the Edwards Plateau where most of my hunting is done is early November and Late November catching the first & second estrous cycles is the time to catch a buck not paying attention to anything other than the ladies...

East Texas, had first ground scrap pop up this week, day after I did some dozer work near by. Scrap was along a tree line we had just walked the day before. Must be a Blue collar Buck, 99% certain its a young, no yet legal buck I have seen in the area.
Week before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving weekend have always been good to me in East Texas, seems like rut is wide open then.

Many, many white oak acorns on my land, saw a few green ones on ground after Monday storm, in a few weeks they will be dropping and deer will be hitting those areas morning, noon and night.

Sunday morning I had a 2.5/3.5 8pt trail a doe by my stand-she acted kind of flighty but when she ran off he didn't follow. Also had a mature buck make a scrape off in the distance-that was neat to watch. I was too far off to gt a good look at his head gear but he might not live through the season. Mills county.

Any reports on Tarrant/Parker Co. ??

I have an old rub line i found fresh last season I followed for at least 1mile radius.

This year I haven't seen one!, rub or scrape in the area ..
Could they have moved in or is there away I can get to come to fake ones I make?

100% agree! This is the schedule on our place in Augusta. ( Houston County ) Not to far from your place.

In Navarro county the bucks are working scrapes and fighting. It's definitely pre-rut for sure, and I think after this last cold front it will be full on by next weekend.

In Erath the bucks haven't split up yet. I did see my first road killed buck yesterday though. Means they're moving around. It won't be long until they're cruising. Opening weekend of gun season they should be in full swing.

I go through there. Beautiful country! Have you read that historical marker sign about the Indian attack? Cool story. Have they finished workng on the road yet?

Gonzales county - scrapes for a couple weeks. Trees worked over. Few fights on game cams. Pre rut.

Blanco county bucks in Bachelor groups last weekend have now separated-chasing and following does -not worried about corn. Necks swelled. I think they're seeking the early estrus does - not seeing them early morning but definitely out an hour before dark. Happy hunting
