I've been out scouting this summer but don't want to go bustin in on someone's archery setup. How popular is the Bois D'Arc unit for archery? If there aren't many people, I'd like to go back out and check for deer sign.

Yeah, I found some spots that look promising, although I've struck out so far at Caddo.

talking with some of the guys i've archery hunted with, caddo has lots of deer. have sat for hours in stand couple days straight, not even see a squirrel, then boom couple nice bucks, does, just enjoy the quietness, birds, what ever, called an owl to me one time, landed tree next to me. i take camera with, short video's, carry pocket note book & pen, keep track of things seen, camera in a phanny pack. best wishes

I was thinking about going up there this weekend. I have not scouted there in a few years, but I do remember some out of the way spots that had sign, and I think I can still find them again. You going up this weekend?

Well like I said wife and I arrived bout 9 pm friday night. We set up camp, started a fire and talked to one of the forest guy a while, it was really nice and relaxing. Well feeling tired we went to bed.... This is where my relaxation went south, waking up to the sound of rain and thunder no big deal I'm in a tent. Next thing I know I feel a little water dripping on my face shine the flashlight and our blow up bed is sitting in a inch of water. Every seam on the tent is pouring water. My wife and I grab our bags, blankets and pillows running to the truck. Haha now we're soaked and cold. After getting only a couple hours of sleep we wake up to try and evaluate the situation. Luckily I don't live but 90 miles away so after a desperate phone call my parents brought us dry sheets and a new tent. I finally got in the woods around 2 saw one legal buck and doe within 10 min being in the woods so I figured my luck was going to change. I was hoping I could get a shot off but they moved into thick cover. Saturday night I didn't see any other deer, Sunday sat 10 hours in the woods and still no deer. Sunday night cooked burgers feeling relaxed again to a phone call saying rain is on the way. I'm in a brand new tent so I didn't care. Woke up today to a broken canopy from wind and rain. Loaded up and came home Mother Nature got the best of me this weekend. Other than everything that happened it was still nice to get out of town. Just an excuse to get new gear before rifle season.

Duckslayer, I may go up again on the 25th. If you are there again, maybe we could tell some lies around the campfire.

I believe that was the weekend I was planning on going again so sounds good. Also to add to my story my wife and I just got back from making a second trip to caddo because I noticed my Pop up blind was not in my truck I left it leaning against the tree in the campsite. I wouldn't have cared if it wasn't brand new and like 200 dollars so another 200 miles and now I'm home

Monday thru Thursday. Did not see any, just 3 total possums at dusk and some cool tortises. Very few tracks, no droppings, scrapes or rubs. Even the fish were not biting, according to the guys at the boat ramp. I have either lost my touch or everything went to their super secret hideout. See ya at gun season. God bless.
