Took the day off to hit my dove field before the front. As I was walking I saw a group coming through so I took a knee in the brush line. About to take my shot....the burning hit me. My dumb A&$ took a knee right in a fire ant bed! I jumped up, stripped down to my underwear and spent the next 20 minutes brushing ants off!
Don't know how but only got a few bites...I mean I was covered! When it was done I had to laugh at how stupid I probably looked with my shirt off and pants around my ankle hopping around. Won't forget that one.

Been there before!
My first job out of high school was swinging a weed eater for a landscaping company. I was on a "tractor crew" which meant we rough cut new home sites - area where the roads and utilities are laid down, but the houses haven't been built yet. My partner drove the tractor, I hit everything he couldn't get to due to obstacles.
One of these obstacles was a hill about 6 feet across and about 3 feet tall. I was standing on top of this "hill" cutting weeds when it felt like my legs were on fire. I looked down and could not see my boots because there we so many ants! I did the same thing - ran to the street striping off everything! My partner though I was crazy. I went all the way down to the skivvies and took my time shaking everything out before getting dressed again.

I had a similar experience one day on a Teal hunt except I had a partner that day. I had the misfortune of having a muscle cramp as I stepped across a really large fallen tree. I was trapped straddling the tree in pain from the muscle crap when I looked down to see my crotch covered in fire ants. My buddy didn't offer to help get them off me but he did take time to laugh.

Ya'll are going to think I'm crazy or awesome.
Solo teal hunt was over with one bird in hand, everything picked up, waders off, gun unloaded and I was tucking everything neatly back in the blind bag getting ready to head for home. A couple of groups came in, merged into one large group of about 60 teal, so naturally, I dove into the closest bush with my empty gun and blind bag in tow. As I pick up the shells that fell out of my bag and load my gun in the most furious way possible, I notice my hands and knees tingling. With hundreds of ants all over me, I begin to execute the most perfect green wing teal peep you've ever heard, remain perfectly still and work this group into the hole. I took 3 teal out of that group and couldn't wear my wedding band for 3 days because my hands were so swollen. My wife still tells me to watch out for ants during teal season...

That's funny.
How'd the hunt go?

Haven't had any run ins this year with fire ants, YET. But last weekend a buddy and I went to dove on some public land that got infested with mosquitoes thanks to some rain. It was so bad that all I could hear was the humming of the dadgum blood suckers around my face. Ended up running through the field like a madman trying to get back to the safety of the truck. Looked like I had chicken pox. The 50% deet didn't even phase those evil things.

I was busting white wings last Wednesday and was standing in a pile of ants. Didn't even know till I felt them crawling up my legs. Stomped around brushed off like crazy only wound up w one bite. I got lucky. My 3 yr old son who's my hunting partner seems to find the ants every time. Poor guy.

when you do get bit, daub some Clorox on 'em. the bite won't fester or form a head, it just goes away.
