This gate looked like crap (forgot to take a "before" pic), and it's the first thing people see when they pull down to the riding arena and office. Decided it needed a quick overhaul. Replaced the rotted boards with some fresh cedar and a metal logo crafted by Kenneth1977. Thanks Ken for the great deal on the metal work! Came out great.

Yep 2". Also learned a lesson on working with fresh cut cedar planks. They need to season before you use them on a project like this because they shrink so badly. Had to pull it apart and squeeze another half board into the channel after it dried out.

How did you run them into the frame? Just into the back of the 2" tubing?

There's a channel on the bottom side of the top square tubing made out of a couple pieces of 1/2 inch angle iron. And a matching channel on the top of the bottom tube. Make sense? I didn't weld up the original gate. Just rebuilt the wood insert and added the metal logo. Also had to rebuild the hinges earlier this year (twice). It's pretty heavy.

I was wondering how you attached the cedar. I thought maybe it was one piece of angle on top and bottom and you just bolted or screwed them on. I like the small channels created with two pieces of angle. No drilling or screwing required. Great design, I'm going to have to borrow that.

That looks great!! Much better with the logo. X's 2. I would make sure there are water gaps in the bottom channel so the wood doesn't sit in moisture. I re-worked a sign for a guy once that had similar set up, but with milled spruce. A couple of weep cuts and it drained the water fairly well. The bottom was what rotted 1st.
