Ok, so I was told by a few people that they have heard/seen of rattlesnakes breeding with chicken snakes, rat snakes.....that the offspring looks like the chicken or rat snake and has no rattles but has fangs and venom....any truth to this? Do different species snakes breed....I know some snakes eat each other..

They would kill each other before the deed could be done

Reptiles are good about keeping their heritage in line... they have a very strict genetic code and would have to be almost the same snake just a different form of it or genotype I think the word is... it can happen but usually when they are in captivity. Snakes are not really social animals either so its a very slim chance it would happen in the wild.

But to answer your question no venomous snakes cannot breed with non venomous snakes...

Somebody has been yanking your chain, big time.

I like it. I'm going to start pulling this on a few people I know.

The only interbreeding I've seen in snakes species North America has been in kingsnakes. And that's between very closely related subspecies. To answer your question, it's impossible for a pitviper (rattlesnake) to breed with a colubrid (rat snake).

Not true, it is extremely rare for different rattlesnake species to reproduce they are too different genetically.
