I am looking for a brand or company that makes pretty decent crossbows for under $600. This is gonna be my first crossbow so I don't need a really expensive one right now. Just lookin for a pretty nice starter crossbow for under $600. Any suggestions or advice?

Excalibur Equinox. 330 fps, under $600 on EBay from pine mountain archery. Comes with everything you need except broadheads.

That's a good price and if you change the string to the flemish model ($25) you'll get 350 fps. The Equinox is a recurve so it's wide and loud but is a bomb proof design, a tack driver and is completely field serviceable (string can be changed in less than 2 minutes in the field) with no need for a press.

One caveat - it is a 225lb draw weight and the power stroke is over 16 inches so I would suggest you try cocking it at a store before purchasing to make sure you are comfortable and/or able. Also a good idea to shoulder it and see how it feels.
