I eat everything I kill and I am to fat to be a bad hunter.

welcome to the forum.

Too late to scout public land now. The bowhunters are already hunting it and you would be trying to find a spot to hunt that would be hard to find. And probably piss some hunters off scouting this time of year during bow season. I suggest you put in for a draw at Hagerman next year. If you get drawn, you'll still have time to do your scouting.

Never too late to scout and hunt public land. If you're going to "explore" a new area do it mid-day and hopefully you wont walk through a guy's set-up. Go slow and if you do come upon a hunter in a treestand back out and take a detour. Lots of squirrel and hog hunters in the woods this time of year and they rarely hunt from a treestand, they're moving through the woods constantly and they have just as much right to be there as a deer hunter in a treestand.
