I've done lots of predator hunting and have a FoxPro with the crow fight on it, but I'd like to know some more tricks. Hopefully I can video them with a 22-250 pointed their way.

Plant a crop for them to depredate so you have an excuse to shoot them.

Owl decoy. Crows cannot resist. Try not to leave many survivors to tell the others, they are smart. Get 3-4 guys together and take the plugs out of the shotguns.
This was Ohio in the early 80's. I do not know the legalities of hunting crow in TX. Back then, if you wanted a farmer to let you hunt rabbits on his land, you gave him and his property respect, and killed every crow you saw.

You need an owl decoy (or two), owl call, crow decoys (6 or more), crow call for each hunter (mouth blown) and shotguns with #6 shot. Lots of setups to hunt them with these tools...if you want more specific info, PM me.
If you want to shoot them with a rifle at 800 yards, go visit someone that owns a pecan orchard and promise to shoot all crows and squirrels you see, without damaging any of their equipment. You need some crow decoys and a mouth blown crow call. If you got a fox or bobcat full body mount (use it and a crow fight tape) Take a shotgun along because you will likely get rifle/shotgun opportunities.
You will normally be better off leaving the crow fight turned off and use a mouth blown call (caw, caw, caw) to attract crows with a searching sequence or an alarm type sequence...hope this information helps.

You may only get squirrels and coons on camera. Cameras don't always pick up crows. Some of my setups do, some don't. Have you sat out to see? With 1 feeder out I can't imagine they don't know it is there.

Sneaky, they're wearing out the farmers around me. Lots of good info, fellas. I appreciate it. I'll grab a mouth call. I was wondering how to make them land on the ground. I guess that feeder I have running is the best bet.

That's good, just in case it becomes an issue. I doubt any game warden would be too worried about a few crows. There's better ways to spend a 350 dollar a month gas allowance.

I think what Sneaky is trying to say is you need to check the game laws before publicly announcing what you will be killing. Just because you feel like killing something does not mean it is legal. Just cause deer are eating your neighbors fruit trees it does not mean everyone can shoot deer any time they wish. Personally I think some of the finest sport is calling and shooting crows. I have shot a lot of doubles but still have not scored a triple. Still uncertain if a shotgun needs to be plugged when hunting crows. Back in late 70's the GW in Cooke & Grayson counties were in total disagreement. I still have an old Johnny Stewart vinyl record of crows fighting that is astounding. Once put it on the stereo, put speakers in several windows and turned it to max sound. There wasn't a crow in sight and within 3 minutes there were over 250 crows visible, many barn storming the house. Looked like Hitchcock's movie "The Birds".

Unplugged shotguns for crows, and yes they are very sporting quarry, a non-game animal so no open/closed season or plug restrictions...
Fireman, I was not trying to be smart...just pointing out that Pecan Orchard owners hate crows and squirrels and you can usually get permission to hunt and have opportunities for some longer rifle shots at them depending on the size of the Orchards.
I usually leave the scout bird alone until a bunch show up, but always I give them an enemy to look at. Sometimes, if you will use a mouth call, you can get a hawk to show up which aids the reality of your setup. I won't use the owl/crow fight unless I am in a tight area (heavy trees/no open areas.) I personally prefer to call crows by mouth, but after a while my vocal cords give out, so I have to revert a mouth blown call. A .22mag with a decent scope is a good crow rifle out to a 100, although there are better options depending on your setup.

No offense taken. I've got a murder of at least 50 near my place, have planted paper shell pecans, and I'm not aware of any critter challenging their numbers. They are absolutely brilliant! I was thinking suppressed 22-250 and 75 gr A-maxes unless I have the 6.5 Creedmoor with me. I'm not aware of any orchards near me, just cattle grazing and row crop.
I've sat the FoxPro out with crow fight at home before with 12 gauge in hand and its amazing how fast 10 show up.

I love a 22-250 cal more than any other small caliber I have tried...never tried the suppressor thing, know a guy that does and he seems to like it. I have been having some crows staying on a planted field, but too many houses nearby to shoot them.
I use the crow fight as a last ditch effort, exactly backwards from most people. I try to pick off singles first, then work my way to the fight after they get somewhat gun shy...seems the semi-smart crows can't resist (smart ones do) even after they have been scared off.

I thought I was the only one who enjoyed crow hunting. I actually like to run the Fox pro with crow/owl fight, and simultaneously blow a rabbit in distress mouth call. I have some crow decoys I set out and they come bombing in.. Most of the time you use the shot gun first on the close in fliers, then as they wise up and begin to alight in the trees 100-300 yards out I switch to the 22-250. I usually shoot 55 grain V-maxes or 40 grain V-Maxes when I can find them. The -250 will literally blow them in pieces. The body will fall with the wings shortly behind them. I have shot 7 crows on a single stand one time. 4 with shot gun, and 3 with the rifle. I must have set up perfectly on a boundary between 2 murders of crows because the first group came in from the NW, and the next group came in almost 10 minutes later from the South/SE.. Talk about the time of your life.
They are SUPER smart and can pick you off based on any movement on your part. I have pictures in my phone of a triple I did recently with my kids .17HMR, and using the back of my hand as a make-shift mouth call. I could not believe that it worked, but they came in 1 at a time and I took all 3.
I keep telling my friends how much fun it is but they just give me a funny look. I guess they will never know until they try it. Trying to guess which direction they will come from and situating yourself in a hidden position is fun. Also trying to spot them before they spot you is fun as well. Sometimes they will come in low and silent and you won't see them until after they have already seen you. Other times they come in at mach 3 and screaming looking for a fight. I am always more successful hunting crows than coyotes. So if you want some trigger time, look for the black-birds of the sky.
Studies have been done in England where they trapped crows using large nets. The people that removed them from the nets wore masks. I can't remember what the masks were, but it is important to note that they wore them while they handled the birds. Then, each year they would go back to the same area and don the masks and immediately crows would send out the danger/alert call and start the rally cry alerting all crows for miles. Here's the best part... They only did the netting/trapping in 1 specific place. Years later, they ventured out to neighboring towns-up to hundreds of miles away, and donned the masks and got the exact same response. The people conducting the testing stated that they can prove that crows can actually communicate with other crows and teach other crows about things that the 2nd crow has never seen, but now through that communication-they know about dangers that they have yet to encounter themselves. Awesome. Theirs is the 2nd largest vocabulary in the entire bird species with the green parrot being the 1st. I have a lot of respect for them, and enjoy hunting them immensely.
There are some cultures that believe that each/every crow is carrying the reincarnated soul of a human being that has passed. That's kind of creepy but I still don't have any problems dropping the hammer when I have them in the cross-hairs.
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Good post (I'm not down with reincarnation, that goes against God, whom made crows brilliant) Coyotes are the smartest critter in Texas on land, and crows are the smartest critters on the wing.

Killed these (30 or so of them, I believe) last year. This was on one sit, with 4 shooters.
