I have just started getting into woodworking. Today I made a woodworking hammer.

The handle is walnut with a couple of oak plugs to fill some worm holes. The head is walnut sandwiched between two pieces of oak. The wedges on top where the handle is are maple. I drilled hole in the center piece of the head and filled them with lead to give it a little more weight.

It was a pretty simple project. I didn't turn out perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it. It took about two hours.

That's really cool. In 20 years when it wears the signs of age and useage it will look so much better.

I've built a couple of steel head hammers from scratch (waaaay more than 2 hours). I need to build a mallet like this since I dont have one. Nice tight joints, looks good Sarge! up

Thanks ya'll. I DO need a good set of chisels. I have some that I bought from Harbor Freight a few years ago and they just aren't cutting it laugh LOL!

I've been practicing cutting dovetails by hand. A good sharp chisel is needed to clean everything up after you cut.

I want to learn to do most things by hand first. I have no problems with cutting dovetails my router, but figured I would learn the hard way first.

I don't know what the brand is. I don't think it is marked anywhere. It is a biggun!
