I have an old unit that doesn't have a timer. It goes off for this set time when you hook it up to the battery but when does it go off again after that? does it just have a delay I don't see a light sensor anywhere on the unit it appears to be going off because there was corn under my stand the other morning but I got there before first light and stayed until dark and it never went off. It's so old I cannot find the model number and I don't see a version of it anywhere searching online. It was first hooked up in the middle of the afternoon so I was wondering if it was going to be going off in the middle of the afternoon when I had taken a break and then going off again at like three in the morning. I was hoping this will fit I hooked it back up to the battery at 8:30 in the morning yesterday.

Some old ones had a trigger arm inside on a dial clock face, then they started going to a timer, or photo cell. Got a photo of it? Surely someone here would have had that same model at some time and may know for sure.

Post a pic for sure if you can. Sounds like the old mechanical clock type. I have only used/tried to use one of them and gave up trying to figure it out, replaced the whole thing with a digital. Sooner or later one of the old timers on here are bound to come along and educate you. grin Where you at stxranchman laugh

Clock faces are easy to set and fairly reliable, all we had to pick from in the early 80's

It could be as simple as making sure the correct time of day is set on the clock face. If not, it may actually be going off in the middle of the night rather than at dawn.

Most likely from what you are describing is a timer that is triggered by daylight in the morning via sensor outside the housing. It will then go off again at a preset time in the afternoon. That could be 10 hrs later or 12 hrs or ??? depending on the unit. Some had a plug inside that could me moved to adjust the preset evening trip time. The units were nice in the fact that they pre-adjusted to daylight in the morning. You could adjust the throw length time. Some were run by D-cells and some by 6volt lantern type batteries. There was one verison (not sure who made it) that had a funky timer that was different for setting feeding times based off when you plugged in the battery IIRC.

These style timers did not have a clock face to set a time by since it was light activated.

If memory serves me right there was a timer that you set with micro switch pens. I believe the brand of the times was Cherokee.
You would turn the timer on in the morning for the time you wanted it to go off and depending on how the micro switch pens were set it would go off in the evening so many hours later.
After it was set it would spin the same times in the morning and evening.

Yea I will have to take a pic when I am there next Wednesday. It has the four switches to adjust throw times I looked all over for any place that might be a light sensor to no avail. Had to unplug my solar panel a pesky ugly five point tha I should have culled Wednesday morning pulled the plug out Wednesday and Thursday mornig both. He kept spinning the feeder and cord would finally catch. I guess a guar need to go up but shouldn't matter after is jerky I'll post a pic of that feeder next week. After finally hunting where I grew up agin I have thought about takin the feeder down. Never use one growing up down there I have my tree at the junction of four trails. Wednesday morning it looke like 35 south leaving Fort Worth on a Friday. Feel more likeley an old timer will come out with out the feeder and hand throw to get them stopped.

Have you hunted near it in the evening? It may be a old daylight/dark feeder with some kind of different sensor built in.
