Just spoke to my neighbor. Watched an all out buck fight this morning and saw a buck with his nose right up in a doe's backside.

Gonna hit the horns hard tomorrow.

Thanks, fortunately it's going to be mid-50s tomorrow so I shouldn't sweat much.

There are positives and negatives about having the rut in early October. The heat is definitely not a positive.

We'll see what happens!

Wow. The intel was definitely good.

Got in blind by 6. Feeder set to go off at 7. It never went off.

I started rattling shortly there after and had a high basket buck almost come through my blind window. He hit the brakes about 5 yards outside my blind and hauled butt, but he was young and not legal, so didn't really matter. About 10 minutes later, it sounds like somebody is rattling in the woods next to me. Curiosity killed me and I got out of the blind, walked out into the open pasture, and 2 young bucks are furiously going at it about 100 yards down from me. I literally walk the tree line right up to them, yell, "Hey!", and they stop fighting, pause for a second, and then run off.

I climb up into my tripod to just watch and hit the horns again. Nothing responds this time, but 4 does run out of the woods right in front of me, obviously being pushed. Sure enough, some little peckerwood is right behind them, nose down, shoulders flexed. Trotting like PePe Le Pew.

Have to be home early today, so I walk back to my truck, but the woods have to show off a little more on my way out. 6 does come out of the woods followed closely by 2 more young 8 points. Bucks are pushing so hard, none of the deer even notice me (maybe my camo is just that good), and these deer run circles around me for like 10 minutes before going back into the woods. Just crazy.

Going back out tomorrow. The rut is definitely going in Austin County, and it's crazy early, but for whatever reason, it's happening.
