According to Star Telegram, a 14 year old boy out hunting Sunday evening drowned after swimming into a stock pond to retrieve a dove. Happened near Alvarado in Johnson Co. The boy swam out ok and was trying to return and started to panic. The adult in the group jumped in to try to save the boy but could not find him in the water. Sheriff officers, game wardens and fire department recovered the body.

I bring this to your attention to let you know there is an alternative. Use a rod and reel and a top water plug to retrieve dove or ducks from water areas where the wind may not blow the game to the shore.

I used to always carry my baitcaster with a hula popper when I duck hunted. These stories are all too common. Common sense is not a common practice. My sympathy to the family.
