While I don't consider myself paranoid when it comes to eliminating human scent, I do use a scent-free detergent when washing my hunting clothes.

Has anyone noticed a difference in any of these products? Some of them seem priced higher than others. Are there cheaper alternatives?

Arm and hammer clear and free works
Could also use regular baking soda
Just make sure no fabric softener when drying
Store in non scented garbage bag after washed

I really only do this when bow hunting

A much better deal than the detergents packaged and marketed to hunters.

I don't buy cover scents or anything else, usually don't wear camo even when hunting from the ground without a blind. Others may have smarter deer than me but if have good wind and watch my movement nothing else matters.

I use Scent Away on my bow hunting clothes, wash and hang to dry. Never tried another brand so I dunno.

That's rule #1 for me as well. Still, deer seem to have the uncanny ability to approach from your downwind side despite your best efforts.

I use Tide or whatever is sitting on the shelf over the washer. Until I can disguise my breath, all of the scent blockers in the world ain't doing any good. So I also hunt the wind.
Not that I have bad breath (not that I have been told), and it doesn't help that them dang breakfast tacos make me gassy, it scares the crap out of the deer.

I don't use any scent control products.

I take it there are not many turkey hunters in this discussion. And when I say turkey hunters, I'm referring only to those who hunt them with a shotgun or bow. These are the ones who know how an old Tom just seems to have a sixth sense so that he always approach from behind.

And they also know that if turkeys had a sense of smell equal to that of a deer, you would never see one.

An option somewhat more expensive than regular detergent is 7th generation free & clear it doesn't have UV brighteners along with being scent free.

My natural scent seems to attract deer.

Ivory bar soap for me. I have the Arm & Hammer Free for the laundry, but rarely remember to use it, when I do wash a load myself. Always conscience of the wind direction though.

My wife and one of my daughters are gaga about the smell of Gain. Gain detergent, Gain dryer sheets, Gain "boost" beeds (whatever those are). Wife even has Gain candles. I know other women that are nuts about it. I'm thinkin' there's some tie between the Gain smell and the female chromosome?

Why no fabric softener? what about no-fragrance fabric softener?

I use the Scent Away products...their detergents for hunting clothes, their soft soap and antiperspirant on myself...I use these products year round, and like them cause they work as advertised (fairly well)...Typically, when bow hunting (I still hunt almost exclusively), I will stow my hunting clothes in an unscented trash bag with some arm and hammer baking soda wrapped up in a few paper towels and taped during my travels...prior to use I usually hang my clothes outside (away from the camp fire) add some fresh cut branches to to the clothes and allow to air overnight (if possible). Also, I never put my hunting boots on till time to hunt (never, ever)...

When rifle hunting, i don't usually worry about it much though...I usually just wear some bib overalls or my waxed cotton outfit and go sit in a chair looking straight down wind...something usually appears from down wind (trailing the smell of the estrus doe scent drag, no doubt!) Hope this information helps.

Because they have UV brighteners...you will stand out like a sore thumb to a deer.

That's hardcore.

Dad smokes in a hand made brush blind and still harvest deer within 20-30 yards. I where camo and scent neutralizer and sit down wind only to have the deer get no closer than 75 yards. Maybe it's the UV...I've been told I have a natural glow!

Or you can do what I used to do...buy military garb and just wash it in the creek/pond/tank/lake and let it air dry over a couple of fresh cut branches, then rub it in some dung of whatever is roaming on the property you are hunting...no UV, no soap smell, with a hint of nature!!! Just don't wear the clothes inside near the heater...unless you want to smell that $hit all night...
