Hello! I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm an English guy currently living in Canada and recently just had my first bow kill down in a Florida. Bowhunting is illegal in most of Europe, but it literally has to be a passion of mine now. After the shot I literally couldn't stop shaking, which is something I've never had when rifle hunting?? Can't hunt big game in Canada as I'm a non-resident worker right now, so have to travel to the US.
I'm hoping to maybe travel to Texas and shoot a few hogs, or maybe even a whitetail deer. That would be a dream.
Hope to learn a lot.
Thanks,
Da

Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I am confused by not being able to hunt big game in Canada now? Couldn't you qualify as a non-resident? I hunted as a non-resident for Mule Deer in Alberta. I would think you could do the same just be more costly for the non-resident license.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Welcome to the forum, not sure I understand why you can't get a non-resident hunting licence. Good luck to you whatever you decide. Bowhunting is the best IMHO.

Thanks for welcoming me.
In Alberta I either need to pay an outfitter, which is pretty expensive at 4.5k, or get a hunter host. Too late for all that now, but I would like to come to teach early next year.

Things are a bit different here! You may have a hard time finding someone to carry your weapon whilst you hunt in Texas!

Ok, this may sound dumb but if you like archery and if you like reading historical fiction then you have to read the Grail Quest trilogy by Bernard Cornwell. He knows his medieval archery and the stories are awesome.

Haha no worries. Not sure what he means by 'carry my weapon'? I'm sure he was referring to royalty from days of "olde", but not in the best form.

He knows his medieval archery and the stories are awesome. I don't mind a little historical fiction; I have read some of Cornwell's work. I prefer straight history though. I have a lot to do with English Warbows. How a single piece of wood could allow the common Englishman to take down European royalty is fascinating

When hunting in England with an outfitter, it is customary for the guide to carry the weapon until the game is sighted and stalked!

Welcome. I believe that France is one of the few European countries that allow bow hunting. From Alberta I would think that Montana would be a good possibility. Unfortunately my archery days are over due to injury and arthritis, but I'd like to pass on one comment on medieval archery, after hearing that war arrows weighed approximately a 4 oz, one commenter said 'Those aren't arrows they're pointy house bricks'.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
