Why in the hell are the application due dates so close to the actual hunt date?

Why not make them all due at the same time? like August 1st

What changes would you like to see with the Texas Drawn Hunt System?

If you are selected for one of these hunts you may only have 2-3 weeks lead time. Most people need more than a few weeks to request time off and buy needed gear.

Oh what about them second chance folks? I mean come TPWD what you thinking?

Some of it is not real convenient. For the hunts that really matter to me, I would quit my job if I had to, so short notice is fine.

I predict they made the problem of no shows worse.
1. No point only purchase option. Big mistake. Almost every State with controlled, lottery, special, drawn hunts has a point only option. They generate revenue in large figures with this option even with non weighted draws like Texas. A lot of people who have no or few points are applying to hard to draw hunts to gain the point when they have no intention to make the hunt that year.
2. Allowing applications to unlimited location in a category. People that draw multiple hunts are more likely to no show one or more due to limited vacation and time. Having most hunts only available on weekdays compounds this.
3. Time line with secondary draw to planning, budget, mostly weekdays, short notice vacation requests, making other plans after first draw. I doubt will cause more people to take those spots.
4. Ease of entry, no restrictions for non residents, same entry fees as residents for non residents or no license requirements. All will cause more non residents with a "cross that bridge" attitude or applying to build pionts to more likely not to make a drawn hunt. Easy and economical for animal rights activists nationwide to apply as a way to block hunts.

Hey, something like a desert bighorn tag is a lot harder to come by than a job.

I agree with what you are saying. The out of state people can actually hunt cheaper than residents with a five day license. Texas is the place in the world that this happens.

I hope they make some much needed changes in the near future.

No set date on the Bighorn hunt, so i'm guessing you're not liking your job. lol

If your willing to pay 40k-50k you can go to Mexico and get this done.

I already know the dates I put in for on the hunts I applied for. So I have already planned that far ahead by applying for those hunts only.

Not sure I follow you on this. Nonresidents license fees are $315 where my fees to hunt Big Game in Texas is only $25 for the year. A 5 day nonresident special hunting is $48 or the full year for $132 with these limitations:
Valid to hunt:
Exotic animals,
all legal game birds (NOT VALID FOR TURKEY),
all nongame animals, squirrel, javelina and alligator (not valid for other game animals, NOT VALID FOR DEER).
Stamp endorsement requirements apply.

And for the record grin I actually quit a job over a hunting trip I was drawn for. I gave them 90 days notice of the hunting date and they said "Don't see no problem". I was taking off 2 days. Two days before I the hunt I told them I was taking off the next day like I had told them and they said "well sorry but you can't go". I said WTF???? I had already made plans and I was going. They said I could not take off, so I said have my check ready by 7 am. in the morning and I will come get it. So I quit and went hunting. cheers Spent the rest of the season hunting then got a new job that paid better and gave me even more time to hunt and fish. banana

I don't technically have a job right now. I quit because they lied to me. Principles and such.

I'm the financial foundation for my family. So, I've had to do the opposite....canceled the hunt and kept my job.

I would of loved to tell them to take this job and .........

How soon after the deadline are they drawing? Today is the deadline for youth, so hoping to hear something this week.
