4 of us submitted the postcard to have a chance in the drawing for the hunt sept 27-30th. We did not get picked but I went down there to see if I could be a standby. The report time was 3:00pm. I got there at 2:15 pm and the young lady and gentleman there representing the parks and wildlife department told me there were no stanbys allowed. I guess they were phsycic as there were only 15 or so people there at the time but they must know 60 people were hiding outside.I was told that all everyone notified that they had been drawn would be there. I think they have a future as weather forecasters! I have bought my last type 2 license and probably last Texas hunting license. If they would have said hang around see how many people actually showed up, then I would not have a problem with this, but I will not be dismissed like a child from people I help pay there salaries!

First of all welcome to the THF

Did you check TPW about being standby for Type 2 hunts before going there?

So are standbys allowed on the postcard hunts? They told you no, right? If they aren't even allowed, what's your beef?

You got a little scattered there in the middle and lost me.

I went on this hunt last year. The reason they know if everyone is going to show is they call the group group leader to confirm the spot. Best thing to do before you drive out is call the WMA that morning. It's too bad you had a bad experience. I've hunted Gus Engeling several times on different hunts and I've always found the staff to be helpful and professional. If you felt disrespected, I would bet it was not intentional.

Good luck compadre.

It says in the booklet under gus engling section for postcard hunts standbys may be available so I have a legitimate beef for them not following the rules they posted.Tell me where I am wrong, and I will apologize.
