Gentlemen, I am curious to know if any of you have noticed a large number of late fawns this season. I have spoken to several hunters about this and they, too, have noticed this phenomenon. I have not been hunting too long, so I have no theories. Anyone have a theory? Much appreciated.

Fawns born in August are common in a lot of South Texas. Fawns born a bit later are usually from an early born doe fawn breeding at 6-8 months of age in Jan or Feb. of 2014. What area are you hunting?

I've seen quite a few small ones around campus at Schreiner University where I study.

We have had an usually high number of fawns survive this year. Probably a good thing after the 2011 fawn die off in this area. Lots and lots of twins being raised this year. up

I see them every year here in Montague County, north Texas. I still have a couple of sets of twins in spots right now.

I have to laugh when I read other hunters post how they have an undersized or miniature buck with antlers that obviously needs to be culled because it is genetically inferior. I have watched some of these developed. What many of them are, are healthy, still growing, late season births from the previous year.

I was sitting in the woods last week with my daughter doing homework. A fawn approached at 30 yards and did not know what to make of us. She slowly approached and was very nervous, before her mother called her. Days like this are what I live for. I love nature

Same here, have a couple that appear to be 15lbs or less, doe is obviously young as well. I also agree with the rest of you summery, wonder how many young bucks went in the freezer that where just a couple months behind and labeled "inferior"

I saw one yesterday couldn't have been more than a couple weeks old. Most of the other fawns have lost or are losing there spots now, but this little guy was brand new.

We've also got a bumper crop of fawns this year as well. I was worried about the coyotes as I saw one during the day stalking a doe with two fawns, but he got away before I could get him in the scope.
Right now most are big enough not to become coyote food, hopefully!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
