My daughters struck out on the youth hunts again this year.

How did the rest of you do?

5th year of trying and my son finally got drawn. Either Sex, Bastrop State Park. Will be interesting to see what the place looks like 3 years after the fire. Have camped there a lot, but not since the fire in 2011.

I loved taking my sons on the youth hunts. All mine are grown now. I guess next year I'll borrow a yoot from someone and take him or her hunting.

Good luck to all the kids drawn!

I was hoping to go on one last hunt with Joshua. He has had more land to hunt than he could ever use. But we saw so much different country and met so many good folks on those hunts. Good luck to those that got drawn.

Do you have her enrolled in the Texas Youth Hunting Program hunts? http://texasyouthhunting.com/

Great program, my boys each made a separate hunt and a joint hunt last year. (4) deer and a Turkey, great fun.

I did earlier in the year and we went to Hunter's Ed in August to have an alternative if we didn't get drawn but haven't applied for any hunts yet.

What are the odds for getting picked for the TYHP hunts?

It means if there are any left over permits (someone who was drawn didn't pay in time), you'll get put in for a drawing to collect those unclaimed permits. Rare chance but still some hope.

Thanks for the info. I had put in for my daughter and son for Lake Mineral Wells. They were drawn two years ago and it was a very nice hunt. This was my daughter's last time.

Well, we got picked for two in our first year, last year. Most hunts are southern half of state and one or two all girl hunts. Go to the site and check the schedule. Free to enroll, doesn't cost until you get picked.
