I'm not new to hunting, but I have never had a real place to hunt that I could call my own. Anyway, I got married recently and my wife's family has a 600 acre piece of land near Sweetwater that I am allowed to hunt. I'm almost positive there are hogs on it and I wouldn't know the first thing about how to start hunting them.
I know there are deer feeders on the property, (two guys lease it out every year) and I am allowed to use their blinds and feeders but I'm pretty sure that they only hold corn during deer season. I am heading out there in a couple of weeks and I was just curious what you guys think would be the best thing for me to do to start figuring this place out?
Should I walk around/drive around for a while and scope it out? Look at a map of the place? Just find a trail and drop a pig pipe?

I'd study a map, if you guys have one, figure out where the feeders/blinds are, and drive around the place until you get to know it thoroughly. Maybe even buy a cheap feeder and find you're own little spot and put up a game trail camera on it. Have fun!

We don't have a map. That would be awesome. I'm just excited to get out there.

Set a feeder to go off in the morning and evening. Buy some inexpensive game cameras like the Primos Truth Cam at Academy (75$) and set them up to monitor the feeders and / or water sources. You will know pretty quick what animals are living around the property.
If you live a long way from the property you might think about an HCO cellular camera. It will actually text pictures to your email address.

If you all are looking for a good map source check this one out: http://www.hawg-view.com/#It was designed by AF people I'm told so the first thing you have to do is click to remove airspace cooridors. Once you zoom in you can select MGRS and get 10 digit grid locations for your spots. It will also give you lat long if thats what you use.

Ryan,
It is almost deer season, don't go out there right now. First thing you should do is call the existing hunters and get their permission to hunt. They leased the property and expect to have sole use of the game on the property. Offer to pay them for a share of the lease so they don't feel they are being taken advantage of by the land owner.
This could turn out bad for you if the hunters sue your wifes parents for breach of contract.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I agree with HornSlayer, work with the guys who are paying for the lease. They're the paying customers and should get first priority. It's really a matter of fairness. They may be happy to have you go after the hogs as long as you don't get in their way lor start shooting "their" deer.

I don't envision this being an issue.

I would assume that the hunters are aware since someone gave him permission to hunt the blinds/feeders. Just hope he works with the hunters on the timing

I was a hunter on a place that allowed some family or friends "access" to where I hunted. I was highly pissed that people I didn't know were using my stands to hunt during the week to kill animals at my stand without my knowledge. It caused a big ruckus. They didn't pay a dime, and just came as they pleased. F that! If I were to find someone in my blind without my knowledge, they would not like the sight of my Glock 10mm on them. It's a bad deal.

Once you communicate with the deer hunters ask them to show you around the place and they may help you find the pigs. They can also help you with plan to set up.

I agree, be sure to call the guys leasing it and be friendly first, let them know what you're doing. It's just the neighborly thing to do.
As for getting to know the land, there's no substitute for walking it. Since it's so late in the year, ask the other hunters and do what they say. Then right after hunting season is over, spend some hours walking slowly and noticing where everything is.....water, food sources, game trails. Part of the fun is getting to know the land.
