My 13yr old decided he wanted to take up archery for this year so I got him a Mission Craze and accys for Xmas last year. He's done some practice shooting in the backyard and the BassPro range inn Grapevine. We have a stand about 10ft up in a tree in the backyard, shooting a target about 20-25 yards. Harnesses, Straps, Prussicks, etc. Doing OK with that I guess, trying to get him to focus on consistent shooting to confirm his aim points are set correctly. We have a deer lease in SW OK, so he should get some opportunity, however I've tried to stress we're not going to climb a tree and poke the deer up with arrows. He needs to be proficient to give it a go. I'm not a Bow Hunter so not too sure where to go from here...
Do I get some broadheads for practice shooting also? Recommendations on those and/or arrows? We bought everything at Cinnamon Creek, so I can go back there, but would rather walk in with some ideas vs just an open wallet.
Thanks, Charlie

Your doing a great a job Dad! I hunt with my daughter were both archery hunters. Don't spend any money until you know what it is you need and want to help him. Most broad heads shoot like field tips but with my daughters bow she was shooting low with G5 montecs 100grain broad heads. I moved her to Rage Hyperdermic and no difference then shooting field tips. I do recommend getting a 3d deer and seeing if he is hitting vitals consistently and have him practice as much as he will. I shoot 3 arrows a day with my daughter and she is always be standing by waiting for that time.

I would not recommend g5 or rage broadheads. I'm assuming a 13 year old is shooting a low poundage bow and for that a broadhead like Magnus stingers or muzzy phantoms shine. G5 monte a are ok I just like others better and I'm only a rage fan for higher poundage bows. Any cut on contact will maximize penetration for a youth bow and 100 or 125 grains is fine. Don't be scared of 125's the added weight can be nice. Always practice with your broadheads first.
