Well here we are a week from the day we wait for all year. Apparently the black bear that lives in the woods I hunt has no respect for the hard work that goes into managing and developing a good deer lease. Last year that knucklehead knocked over a feeder but otherwise left my feeders alone. Went back to the lease recently and I guess he has developed an affinity for corn because he trashed and emptied 2 feeders. A buddy tried a solar powered electric fence on his land last year with no luck keeping bears out. Yall have any advice on how I can keep this joker out of my expensive corn? He doesn't seem to bother the deer much. They'll be there on the same day just at different times. I have pics of him hanging out under my feeder waiting for a snack.

Use hanging feeders. They are a little more work, but should help with the problem.

Try the capsule feeder. It's a little pricey but the bear wouldn't be able to get to the corn if you steak it down with t-posts. I'm assuming your out in far SW Texas which makes this feeder worth the extra money when you look at time and gas to get to your hunting land only to find the feeder trashed. The corn is never exposed on a plate or trough so it takes away their incentive to mess with it in the first place.

Actually this lease is in arkansas. The land owner said we can harvest a bear "if we can live with doing it" but he seemed to be uncomfortable with it. Personally, I'm no bear hunter. I've had bear and its pretty greasy. I mean to do him no harm just want my feeders left alone. I thought about a hanging feeder but was wondering if anyone knows of another option. Issue with the hanging feeder is they're smaller and I'd have to change my whole setup. The feeder that would be the worst one to change out is in a clearing on a creek bed. Would take some work but I guess I don't mind if it'll save me some headaches.

In Eastern NC all we can use are hanging feeders about 10 feet off the ground and at least 4 feet from anything or they tear theam all to pieces. They figure out pretty quick if the tear the spinner off it will all run out in a pile. a bear will not feed around like a deer or hog and pick up pieces they want a mouth full at a time. If he ever starts camping out there and crapping around the feeder you can forget about deer coming in. Find someone who want to shoot a Bear. If they land owner is timid about shooting it make sure he is not around when you hang it up to skin that's when most folks get upset. The guys I hunt with here shoot about 20-25 bears a year and one on the skinning rack draws alot of attention good and bad. we have started skinning them in a shop with no one around.

These feeders you just simply set down on the ground and there are openings around the outside edges to drive 4 t-posts in and your done. If the bear is in season and it was me if he was mature I would have to give him a dirt nap, but not if I felt the landowner was uncomfortable with it.

If it's legal, ground check that bear.

Deer hound I've got some pics of exactly what you said. He tore the spinner off the bottom of one and sat down to a couple hundred pound pile of corn. Between him and the hogs it didn't last but a night or two. The other feeders he pushed so hard he broke the baling wire that was holding the legs to the t post. Once they were down he smashed em and went to work. I get a bear tag with my put of state ark license. The land owner mostly is concerned that a tagged bear will get shot and he will have big brother coming down on his land. I wish I liked bear meat. Maybe I need new recipes. Last I had it it was hard to eat.

Dang, Shoot that sucker and give him to someone who does like bear. You'll find them, I'm sure. I'd rather do it myself if it were my lease. Having someone else will really get the land owner feeling weird, I would imagine.

Bee keepers use 3 strand electric fence, may look into that if you can get enough power for it.
