Buddy of mine has some teal that were shoot last weekend but not cleaned. Forgotten in the refrigerator in his garage. He called to ask if they were still good. I've never let any go that long. Anyone have some experience?

Some people leave em 4-6 days on their back. Something about natural enzymes making the meat tenderized.

I have heard of head shooting turkeys and then hanging them in a cooler for a week or so before cleaning. I guess it might matter on where it was shot. A gut shot might not be desirable.

8 days not a problem. I do 7 all the time. 8 and 9 days a few times. Clean them and then use your nose. They should not have any sour smell.

16 days and they are perfect. Make sure on backs and not gut shot.

Left'em over 2 wks before, they're fine. Me too. Depends on the temperature of the fridge, when they were cooled, etc... If cooled soon after the kill, and kept at 34 to 36 degrees, hung or kept on back, 2 weeks is fine. I think I have gone 3 weeks, and that was for sure getting too long. Use your eyes and your nose. If it smells, or is slimy, or turning brown, toss it. Otherwise it's good.

I've had some teal breasts in my fridge since opening day that I'm about to feed to the pups.
