I could not find anything about this place in WW2 but given its location near the Colmar area and height advantage, it no doubt must have been used as some sort of observation post. It was really interesting to visit and I sure would not mind having a second look.

Here is a slideshow to click on. I will post a few photos as well.

Saw this view on the way and had to take a pic

Great photos again!! That is odd, I could find anything mentioned other than ""After World War I, the French state confiscated the castle according to the 1919 Treaty of Versailles;""

Almost like any ww2 history was scrubbed?? I agree with you, that is just to great of an advantaged to have not been used. How far would the "Colmar pocket" have been from that vantage point, do you recall?

May only be mention of it in Solders memoirs or letters home?

It's right there in the Colmar pocket.

I'll have to put it on my list of things to research. It may be only available in more scholarly, historical type works. It could be something as simple as there were both German and later Allied OPs located there and they left. Since you could see like 360 degrees from high up it had to be used during WW2.

The French took, or took back depending on your history, the whole Alsace. That's one of my favorite regions to visit.

only thing I found on it was that it was used as a German prison until the allies took it over when Germany surrendered Colmar. then it was used by the allies Monument Men to store works of art recovered from the Germans all across Europe.

Beautiful place and a fantastic view. It would be a key Observation point.
