Hi, everyone so this will be my first year deer hunting in Texas. I will try on a very small tract in Liberty Texas. It's only six acres but it's free and the landowner says he sees deer all the time. I was hoping to get some advice and tips for hunting liberty county, I am from Nebraska where rules are very different and so is hunting corn fields and CRP than hardwoods and pine. I was thinking of putting up a feeder, those aren't allowed during the season in Nebraska, also is Liberty county under the antler restrictions I tried to find it on Tpwd but had a hard time. Any other advice would be great. Thanks and happy hunting, o and I will be rifle hunting and maybe crossbow.

IMO, the most important thing about hunting postage stamp acreage is safety. Is your bullet going to cross property lines. If you can, hunt from an elevated blind so your shots are pointed downward.
Go for a high shoulder or other shot that will drop the deer where he stands. Don't even think about a crossbow or other archery. The deer WILL run onto someone else's property after the shot, then you must get landowner permission to retrieve the deer by law.
There aren't any laws restricting feeder setup in Texas. If you set up close to someone's fence however, you will likely cause some conflict with the neighbor.
Good luck.

So talking more with the landowner he's saying it's about 15 acres now and it backs up to Menards creek preserve. And thanks for the tips, I've been deer hunting since I was 12 and know safety with house but just haven't been on this small of an acerage. There is also a deer lease to the south of me. So there is pressure around the area. I was hoping a crossbow or archery for safety reasons but the running onto someone else's land is a big problem also. Trying to get keys to the land and house to go scope it out more. I am planning on using 30.06. 180 grain to put the deer down fast.

I will let you know how it goes. I would be happy with just a spike or a doe so I could get some meat in the freezer. But if a monster happens by I would probably have a heart attack.

Put the feeder up ASAP. I would scatter out two or three bags of corn, 2 or 3 weeks before gun season, near the center of the property. Pretty spread out to keep hogs from running off deer and keep them looking for the corn.
Take good advantage of the opportunity to hunt nearby. I travel almost 7 hours to my lease.

Wow that's far, yeah I got pretty lucky this guy volunteers where I work. He is also letting me use his house out there which he doesn't even live in but keeps electricity and gas paid up on it. I am hoping to get out there on Sunday and put a feeder and a game camera up.

That sounds like a really good setup for you. Take mosquito repellent also, just in case. Good luck.

I have Ten Acres in Robertson county. I killed a 160 5/8 inch Buck last year. Small tracks can be awesome. Less traffic is better. Feed hard and try hunting rainy days it works. When the rain stops they usually move. Most people don't hunt the rain and deer know that. Mighty Smart Old bucks. Change up your hunting pattern. You don't want to much hunting pressure.

Might want to high fence it and bring in Jimmy Houston to show you how it's done.

Liberty County has a lot of deer now. AR's do apply and if I'm not mistaken you must have at least 10 acres to shoot a firearm. The river bottoms and creek bottoms hold some nice deer. You shouldn't have a problem filling your freezer. Good luck and pm me if you ever need anything, I hunt the same area...

Got out to the property, put up a feeder, looks like most of the land follows a creek not a wide tract but long. Put feeder in clearing by creek and saw this rub. Next week stand goes up.

"Firearm" includes shotgun and black powder. There are no applicable laws to be enforced unless your county commissioners have adopted the GW's state minimum acreage law, 0-49.9 acres shotguns and archery. 50 or more center fire rifles allowed. Further the county commissioners may have made a county ordinance against using firearms on minimum acreage. Plus look up laws pertaining to certain acreage being annexed by city and when, as the local government code and senate bill 734 provides specific protection for hunting and shooting from local city municipal ordinances as well as state law for discharging firearms within certain municipalities. I'll have to research the local government code and get back with the specific one.

hunt in a subdivision on lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if the commissioners court, by order, prohibits the discharge of a firearm or the use of archery equipment in such subdivisions. (Contact local county clerk and ask about §235.022, Local Government Code.) This is off the TPWD website, I am not really sure what unincorporated subdivision means.

I don't believe it's a subdivision so I think I would be able to use a firearm, I think this is more for counties with large population such as Harris or bexar, Liberty had a population of 22,000 or something like that. I don't mind use a slug it would be safer.
