This Axis had been hit in the hind quarter and was basically a Mercy Harvest, you could count his Ribs..still wanted to Honor the Kill so I had North Texas Tannery put the rub down on him and he turned out well and will be put to use...

That looks nice. I have two I'm getting ready to ship them tomorrow. First time to use them. How did you ship? or did you drop off. How long did it take to turn it around?

I dropped off he is in Denton and a super great guy...or u may call on shipping..harvested in late June and dropped off and he said running 5 months and he called last week..way over performed and it is so reasonable ( don't want to revel his pricing) may not be a big deal but would rather come from him...so resonable..w be taking some deer hides this year and other stuff! Again super super nice guy...good luck

I've been telling myself for two years now I'm going to get my hides tanned for throws, wall accents, etc...but now hearing your account as well as the countless references to using NTT, I'm doing it!!!!

As far as from the ground to him, do I need to skin it a certain way...flesh it at all...salt it....freeze it? Any standard protocol as to getting a good hide to him to tan and not to be that guy rolling up and making him do work before his normal work?

It's hard to feel sorry for someone with one leg who shoots themself in the foot.

Thanks. Great information. I got mine Fedex'd to him this morning. I've seen lots of good reviews so hopefully this works out and I can send him more soon. Going direct to him is a lot cheaper than through my taxidermist.

Great questions. I'm interested in any tips also. I skinned mine like rolling off a sweater and only made minimal cuts thinking I would leave cutting down the legs and middle to them. I spoke to them on the phone and he said just roll it up, freeze it, and ship it in a sytrofoam cooler with dry ice and contact information inside. Finding the shipping coolers was the biggest challenge. I located some previously used ones at a local shipping store. Anchor Box Company in Houston also looks like a good source for next time.
