Finally! One of my favorite times of the year has arrived.

I will be heading down to my land just north of Goliad and I was looking to get a conditions/bird report for that area.
You guys seeing many dove flying down there? I know there were TONS of mourning dove last time I was down there.

I know forecast looks like rain but anyone down there will tell you that really doesn't mean anything anymore, especially in Victoria. Are you guy's actually getting good rain though?

Really looking for any info I can get. Thanks guys!

The rain has been spotty in that area lately. Not an all day event by any means.

Awesome! Exactly conditions I was hoping for.
We need the rain down there, but I really want some opportunities to slay some dove too!

Thanks guys!

Live Oak county is pretty thin. We had good numbers of birds coming to water, but have had several rains over the last 2 weeks and no longer have good numbers coming to water.

80% chance of rain for Friday. Should be interesting.

All that being said, rain is always a good thing around here.

I bet we kill a few birds no matter what happens.

Always chasing grey bullets.

Yes, exactly. As of right now later in the weekend starts to look better anyway.

Even if we don't kill a single bird it will still be a great weekend. They always are!

Thats what they said about yesterday and today... we didn't see a drop out of the "2-4" inches we were supposed to get. There will be some scattered showers but thats about all. Nothing like the 6 inches we got last year on the opener.

Ya, from what I have seen/heard that's the way it's been most of this year. I think they really have only have 1 or 2 decent down pours in Victoria. When ever I have been at my ranch in Goliad when rain has been predicted it will just be a shower, not even enough to soak in the ground and water the plants.

Last year drove through that storm on that Friday night. Hands down scariest drive of my life.
Next two days provided some great dove hunting though. Birds were flying like crazy.

I'm expecting heavy rain around Sealy & Eagle Lake. I have my raincoat & mud boots ready!

I'm headed up to southern Live Oak County at noon tomorrow, with a quick stop at Smoliks along the way. One of my favorite days of the year. As of Sunday, we had pretty good flights of mourning dove, but most of the white wings had moved on with the front. Opening weekend always offers pretty good shooting unless it's raining. Forecast looks bleak, but that has been the case for 2 weeks with little to show for it at our place. Come rain or shine, I will be icing down beer in 24 hours and clearing the ranch gate in 28 hours.

Report from Beeville is few birds and lots of rain. I sure hope the weatherman is completely wrong about this weekend.

We are heading down to Palito Blanco next weekend. Some years it is great some years it sucks. Either way it is always a great trip. This will be our 11th year as a group hunt on the same place.
