I saw a fawn yesterday with very bright spots I guess this is a very late fawn and supports the idea of the chase lasting past the first of the year. All others are much larger and lost spots weeks ago.

We have deer in our neighborhood, and last week I saw a tiny fawn with bright spots curled up next to a doe. The fawn couldn't have been more than a day or two old. It's the first time I've seen a September fawn, but it proves that the rut can last longer than typically thought.

I have seen one in Mid Oct. In fact, this was even on a draw bow hunt at Fort Boggy SP a few years back. It couldn't have been over a month old. I had momma at 14 yards broadside, but with one that little, I let her walk.

What I've seen is a younger doe, or really early fawn will come in heat even as late as end of Jan and have a real late fawn coming into next season.
Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

Here it is Oct 5 and I have a set of twins that are still in spots, though the spots are fading now (far left and far right)...

Could be several things. A bad buck to doe ratio can cause a second or even third rut later into Jan. If fawns are born early in your area then the young doe fawns can get big enough weight and age wise to cycle. A lot of late fawns are born to doe fawns that breed in Jan or Feb.

I have seen the same, seems like last season had some late season romance. Interesting that happened in a year when much of Texas had mild summer weather, rain, lots of natural food, so these young deer had an easy start to life.

I work in wimberley.. Deer in this town are like stray cats anywhere else. I'm still seeing spotted fawns almost daily. My guess is all the rain makes for a healthy spring. Plenty of food and water means higher birth/survival rate, and also possibly a late rut.
