Well, long story short. I'm 43 and never really hunted as a kid. About a year and a half ago my daughter decides she wants to start hunting. So last Christmas we got shotguns. Took Hunter Ed. In the spring. Went to the range a whole bunch all year. Bought our licenses and some camo and went out with Blake from Duck and Dove on opening day for our 1st ever hunt. We brought home 7 dove. Could have brought home limits if we were better shots. Anyway we made some dove jalopeno poppers. They were tasty! I figure they cost us about 2 grand by the time you add it all up shocked. Oh well, it has been and will continue to be a GREAT bonding experience for my daughter and I that is immeasurable compared with the money invested.

That's what it is all about. It's only money. Glad you are out with your daughter. Taking my 2 girls on an over nite trip this eve. Hoping the hogs will be there tonight and teal in the morning.

It's only money, finding something in common you can share with your kids, especially when they get into their teen years, is way more rewarding than anything else you would have spent that money on.

My duck hunting habits and focus has definitely changed over the last couple of years since my daughters have gotten older, 13 and 17 now, and like to hunt, but the fact that they are asking me when they can go does not bother me one bit, I love it.

When they can go, someone else is getting kicked out of the boat no doubt.

Enjoy it.

Don't look at it as a $2000 loss. Look at as future boyfriends who will show respect

Trust me I definetely don't look at it as a loss. As you guys all know and have said, money well spent. Expensive sport to get into though. Way more than basketball or volleyball.

That's the way you need to look at it. It's not all about dollars and cents. It's about being outdoors with your family. That is priceless.

I love spending time with the family hunting and at the lease. I know it isn't cheap, but you can make some awesome memories that are priceless.

You will never truly enjoy yourself if you dwell on the money spent.

Reminds me I need to hug my dad for teaching me how to do everything from set a trot line, to field dress a deer. Many of my friends growing up were not near so blessed. You Sir are a good father.

Mazeltov.

But DANG exactly what kind of shotguns did you buy? LOL

Got her a youth Weatherby SA-08. She will never outgrow it. She will stay on the small side. I picked up a CZ Canvasback on sale. The two guns ran us a total of about 1K. Add in all the shells we've shot this year, the gun range fees, the small gun safe, hunting license, camo etc etc and I'd say easily topped 2K total, Like i said, money well spent. And much of it was initial expense we won't have to dish out again.

The Weatherby fit her perfectly. I could have probably spent a hundred or so less, but I got what I wanted and I'm real happy with my CZ

Sounds like a typical dove hunt to me. I usually enjoy hanging out with friends and cutting jokes than actually getting a limit. At least next season will be cheaper.

nothing like teaching kids to enjoy the outdoors

If you look back over your life are you fully satisfied you pleased the Maker of Creation. Are you fully assured that you have trusted in His Son, Jesus Christ, for your salvation. Are you confident that you have a definite hope of going to Heaven?

my daughter got interested in hunting at the age of 15. She has been my hunting buddy ever since. She is now 23 and called last night wanting to go dove hunting this evening. told her the birds were not flying very good right now but she doesn't care she just wants to go hunting. So I guess i'm hunting this evening.

Hey, your a great Dad! I told my dad I wanted to go hunting when I was a kid and he though I was crazy... Needless to say I grew up in a liberal state, but I got to Texas as fast as I could!
