A few years ago, I missed 9-10 in a row. I had my lab sitting about 30 yards away to have him closer to where the birds would fall to make it easier on him to retrieve. After I missed the 10th one, he looked back and barked. Like" Hey, mf! hit those damn birds!

We all have those days.

They are balance by those days you can't miss

I had a night like that earlier this season while dove hunting. Couldn't hit a bird if it landed on the end of my barrel. I was screaming and cussing with every missed shot. I calmed down and told my buddies next bird I shoot as is going down. Surely enough it did. Still a terrible night when I consider how many misses I had (couldn't keep track), but ended the night with 4 birds in the last half hour and shooting at 6. Which still isn't great, but I try to focus on the last half hour. Haha

I used my duck gun instead of my dove gun to hunt dove last weekend. I was hitting the distant birds but I couldn't hit the ones in close to save my life. My duck gun is longer and heavier than what I typically use on dove so I blamed it on those factors.

Hahah, all real hunters have been there!

The dog was not happy with me last Sunday. After the evil look came the whimpering, then the barking. I let her sit in the Ranger for a while and she seemed to settle down. Finally got back on track and everybody was happy.

Just heard a story of a friend of a friend, was invited on a dove hunt out west. Shot 4 boxes of shells and killed 3 doves.

Don't get much worse than that. . .

I might miss 12 in a row. Then I might hit 6 in a row. My dog is an idiot, though, so she just runs around the whole time looking for birds.

My dog will whine at me if I miss...it's funny

I laughed when I read this but yesterday missed on my first 12 shots. Never changed anything and got a limit with les than 2 boxes. I was sure shaking my head and saying a few choice words.

Whenever I was a kid, my dad only let me put one shell in at a time. Also would only give me 3 more shells than the limit (believe it was 15 shells for 12 birds). Didn't take long to figure out I had to make every shot count. By the time I was 16, I was limiting almost every time and bringing him shells back.

Fast forward to today....if I am having a hard time hitting birds, I go back to the basics. 1 shell at a time and only bring 18 shells for my 15 bird limit.
