Will barbed wire, if ran correctly, keep out hogs? Im in the process of building a new deer feeder pen and dont have the availability as of this moment to haul sections of 20ft panels out to my farm. Thoughts of cutting the panels in half, but then barbed wire came up. Anyone done it? How many strands? 3, 4, 5? Thanks

I don't think you can keep barbed wire tight enough to keep them out.

I would say no. They even get through net wire.
If you fenced your feeder so no feed would ever get out then mesh wire works pretty good, but panels are your best bet.

Our local Tractor supply stocks hog panels in 8 foot lengths now. I would try them.
PRIVATELY OWNED TAHC permitted feral swine holding facility. Serving Gulf Coast and South Texas ranchers, farmers, hunters, and residents with abatement. Disposal, Traps and in-field pick-up service available.

Hogs use barbed wire as a good back scratcher!

I bought cattle panels (16'x50") at Tractor Supply ($19 each) and used bolt cutters to cut them down to 8' lengths so I could haul in truck bed.
I doubt barbed wire will stop a hog unless spaced very close together & tight, might slow them down for a while.

Ive seen 8strand wire fences around here that get the job done... but your going to have to pretty much set Hbraces to get them tight enough

you can bend the 16ft panels in half and put them in your truck bed.....set them on edge and bend them in half and load them on edge....then continue loading each panel inside the other. I have loaded up to 10 panels in my truck bed this way.
No way barbed wire is keeping hogs out...

I had a picture of how I use to carry them on my other truck.. wish I could find it.... just put some card board on the roof of your truck and put them suckers on the top of the truck.... strap them to the grill guard and then the receiver hitch... works like a charm

You can also load panels in an 8' truck bed by starting the panel at the front of the bed, and bending in up in a half-circle, then with the tailgate up, stuff the back edge in the bed just inside the tailgate. Then just keep stacking them. When you unload them, they are spring loaded, but they will not be bent. They will ride. I worked at a lumber yard in college, and we did this regularly.

Barbed wire to a hog is like a hot knife through butter! Won't even slow them down!

I tried that option first and then proceeded to watch a pack of 22 pigs run either under & through it to get to the corn. Once I shot and killed 3 with 1 shot, that scattered and destroyed the barb wire installation that took me 2 days to install professionally. So I was out the money for the installation and 6 strands of barb wire installed on a pen that was 44 ft in diameter.
I put panels up the very next weekend to watch the exact same group of pigs walk around and act VERY pissed off they couldn't get in.
Ended up shooting 2 more of that group that day.

That's why I turn them on edge with the bend up by the cab...that way when you remove them, you have more control and can remove them one at a time from the inside out. First time I loaded them in my truck I did it the other way and all hell broke loose when I cut the straps...funny but scary at the same time....

Barb wire wont keep goats out, much less hogs. If you can throw a bucket of water through the fence, it won't stop goats or hogs.

I have bent 48" tall x 20' 4"x4" panels into a U-shape and hauled them 325 miles in the back of my pickup. Cut them in half and built 2 feed pens. You can also buy round rolls of concrete remesh wire that will make a feed pen also.
