My daughter's BF is more of a fisherman, and my daughter is more of a hunter. But they share activities. To help support that, I treated the three of us to an axis doe hunt on a friend's ranch north of Brady.

Hunting was tough in the heat, and they passed the heat of the day putting a dent in the local cottontail population. But he persisted and was rewarded this morning with a nice axis doe - his first deer. We split up to cover more areas, and I'm proud that Jon made a clean 1-shot, dead-right-there shot with my borrowed 25/06.

You can see Hannah's reaction to his success.

She and I didn't see any axis does, but see lots of WT. I was able to take some pics while I was waiting for an axis opportunity.

Congrats to Jon! Not many can boast an Axis as their first deer. Incidentally, we've been seeing a huge, high eight on the ranch that I'm sure you'll be interested in this fall smile

I'll be after him in about 50 days, sooner if I get my bow.
