Anyone have anything good to say bout any of the new 3/4 ton gas rigs? 6.4 hemi dodge 6.2 ford? I've had a Chevy 6.0 in 2005 and loved it. Maybe in the market for one and my pre approved loan from the bank is $40000 which will give me more bang for my buck and last longer

Get a diesel, if 40 grand is your max get a used one, stay away from Ford 2010 and earlier models.

I know of several 6.2 gas 250's & 350's with 80,000 ~ 204,000 miles on them. I bought a used 6.2 350 with 101,800 cheap. For what it is used for I don't miss the diesels at all. Great engine, easy to maintain, good power. Keep in mind the hp & torque are cut back with gvw rating above the 10,000 gvw package. If you tow frequently (more often than not) or through the mountains or want to tow 14,000+ = diesel.

I've had diesels for years, some with programmers, some without. No gas engine comes close to what they will do. That being said, I just traded out of a 4wd, 4d dually, diesel into a 1 ton, single wheel, reg cab, 4wd with the small hemi. I used to pull my travel trailer all over and haul tractors and such between farm, deer lease, etc. Now I just tow my travel trailer to and from the deer lease, about a 30 minute drive. I am happy with this setup for now but if I should decide to get back into traveling a lot with the travel trailer it will be back to a diesel, no doubt.

You can compare a gas to diesel the difference when towing is night and day, I don't like operating my equipment at max limits if you'll be towing anything of size like a tractor, large camper, goose neck etc. I'm sure the gas engines are well built but will take a lot more stress under load and that where I lose piece of mind with gas. Just my opinion. If you decide to go diesel you won't regret it.

That's all I have owned is diesel for the last 6 years. I don't have cows or horses any more. All I haul is a car hauler loaded with 4 wheelers or rzr's . So 5 days a week I drive 40 miles round trip all hwy so I don't need diesel any more. I have a ford 6.4 diesel that has a chip and all the EPA crap deleted and I'm getting some miles on it so I need to get into something new . I don't like paying $100 to change the Poland another $90 for filters. I avg bout 14 mpg period don't matter if I'm pulling 10000 lb of hay or headed to work. But I don't do that anymore so I like the idea of a gas rig

I'd do a 1/2 ton or diesel. A 3/4 ton gas gives you the ride of a big truck, terrible mileage, and won't tow close to a diesel.

Tried the half ton game a while back and didn't care for it. I loved my 2005 gmc 2500 6.0 and put 180,000 miles on it with no trouble just was looking for some advice on the new motors ford and dodge came out with

I still hear lots of good things about the ford 6.2 and the GM 6.0. Don't have anything on the new hemi. People who think you cant tow with a gas 3/4 ton are fooling themselves.
Honestly depending on what your looking at towing/hauling I would look at the 1/2 ton market carefully it has come a long long way! If you need the weight carrying capacity then a 3/4 ton may be a good idea. You can buy a diesel for less than 40k new.
What do you need it to do?
The ford ecoboost and ram ecodiesel have about the same performance ratings as the early model diesels out of the 3/4 and one ton trucks, they are plenty capable.

The ford v10 is a great engine, the 6.2 is Turing out to be just as good. The Chevy 6.0 is another good one. Only gas 3/4 I wouldn't own is the dodge

I haul with a 3/4 08 Chevy HD... was surprised how well it pulls.... its been in the shop twice though since we got it a few months ago... nothing serious just computer sensors.. It was cheap mainly so why not...

No people aren't fooling themselves saying a 3/4 ton gasser doesn't tow. I drive a 2011 6.0 chevy as a company truck and compared to a diesel it's a gutless bastard. No way in hell I'd buy a 3/4 ton gas if it was my money. The truck runs great and the only issue is a stabilitrac sensor out but it gets 12 mpg empty and gets worse fast when towing. I towed a trailer from lubbock to college station and got 4.7mpg on the trip and ran at 65 to avoid blowing it up. Granted it was a fairly heavy trailer that was pretty tall but that 6.0 hated life

Well I'm just out on the diesel game guys I have had them and I've loved em and hated them. The heaviest I'll be towing is a car hauler with a f100 that's got a 460 12" lift and 38" tires. I drove a half ton chevy today and it has ZERO power. It's between the new gmc 2500 6.0 or the ram 2500 6.4 hemi. I can't really get a screaming deal one the ford and I'm not a fan of the interior on the ford. Looking for a change. I've found enough to read for years on the 6.0 and a little bit one the 6.2 ford but haven't really seen much on the 6.4 hemi

My dad and I both have 3/4 ton gmc/chevy 4x4s. Both have 6.0 engines. Mine is 07gmc 2500hd classic with 4.10 gears and old style 4speed auto tranny. his is 08 silverado 2500hd with 3.73 gears and new 6 speed tranny. They get about the same mileage believe it or not because his engine is always laboring when its in 6th gear. In overdrive it dowmshifts everytime you hit an overpass. That tranny and gearing make it feel powerless. If you get a chevy i would be sure you get 4.10 gears. When you test drive it set it on cruise and hit a hill or overpass and see what you think. Guy at work just got a new dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with 3.73 gears and smaller hemi and he has same complaints as my dad. But he actually gets better mileage. The only advantage to not getting a diesel is fuel/maintenance costs and the clean air crap they put on the new ones. My next one will be a half ton chevy/gmc with the max towing package, 6.2 engine and 3.73 gears

I've owned diesels and I've seen first hand what it takes to keep one on the road. It's just makes more sense for me to have a gas rig. I had em all stock and I've had the "coal rollers" I'm over it I don't need a diesel.

Granted it was a fairly heavy trailer that was pretty tall but that 6.0 hated life Your still wrong. If your not buying a long distance haul truck for 10k plus you probably don't want/need a diesel. Most people I know in new diesels that aren't chipped etc are getting mid teens around 15-16 mpg empty on a good day around 10-12 loaded. Gas is cheaper truck cheaper fuel cheaper maintenance, less emissions carp, and will easily tow what a lot of diesel drivers use them for. My dad has a 3/4 duramax and he loves it, and it has been a great truck, but in all honesty the biggest thing we tow with it is a 30 foot travel trailer we used to pull with a 1994 1/2 ton gas chevy. Sure the diesel does it easier, but that is about it. They even get within 1-2 mpg while towing the tt.

Sure I can see the benefits of a diesel work truck where that is what it does day in and day out is pull heavy loads, but in the recreational use world they are much more of a novelty. Sure if you can afford it and want it get it, but you don't need it. My uncle has been pulling a 36' tt back and forth from sa to the coast all summer with a '11 chevy 6.0 gas and 3.73 rear end it does fine cost him less to buy maintain and operate than a diesel. Sure I want a diesel for my next truck, but I have other things to spend that money on and don't need one.

You better keep it forever...they don't sell well. I never understood the logic either...if you don't need the diesel then buy a half ton truck....if you need the 3/4 ton then get the diesel. Better for resale and better for towing...maintenance, increased fuel price and repair costs are the only downside to a diesel.
I drove them for almost 10 years and really didn't need one but wanted one and loved driving it...I've got a half ton ecoboost now and it's a good compromise for a guy who doesn't need the 3/4 but like the power and the way a turbo truck drives/pulls.

They also don't cost near as much new. Its like the argument that people always buy 4x4 trucks for the resale. Well you get about 4k more for a 4x4 but it costs you about that much more to buy it new too...
