I've never hunted there but you have to be real careful driving a little north of there because of the deer on the side of the road. That stretch of US 271 between Antlers and Poteau is some beautiful country. There is black bear around there too, although I don't know the hunting regulations regarding that.

That is a very nice area. I'm sure there are good deer around.

My hunting group leases a little over 1300 acres. We're about halfway from antlers to Clayton off 271. The hunting is pretty tough but there are some very nice deer out there. I like the scenery. The pine trees remind me of New Mexico. We do have some bears so all of our feeders have to be hung from trees.

The Kiamichi mountains are just beautiful. Some of the biggest deer (recorded that is) have come from that area. I lot of positives about the area. The biggest negative is the thieves. If you have a spot that is hard to get to or is guarded by someone that is close by, you should be ok. I have friends up there and have hunted the area for almost 10 years now. The Moyers/Kiamichi Wilderness area is probably the worst when it comes to poachers and thieves or at least that was the case a few years ago. There have been a couple threads on here discussing the poaching and theft in that area.
