 Something I haven't done in 10 yrs........

So I was walking to my dove spot yesterday morning about 650am and the visibility was meh, but getting better. I see a bird on a tank trail (FT Hood), and I say to myself, man that's big dove. As I say that I notice it had no tail and was darker than a dove. Then it hit me, quail!!!!. So I set my equipment down and look back up to where it was, nothing, gone like a ghost. I decided to walk over to it to see if I could flush it. As I walk to the tank trail I hear a variety of clucks and see about 30 birds running for cover just on the other side of the tank trail. I cross the tank trail and they all flush. I raised my gun and blacked one out till it was about 50yrds out. Now the younger me probably would have shot it, but now that I am older I have much more appreciation for the outdoors. It's more about the experience than the limit out determination. I haven't hunted quail in over 10yrs and the beating wings literally gave my an adrenaline i have surely missed!!!!!!

We are seeing more quail this year, but not enough to hunt, I miss those days.
Combat Infantryman, the ultimate hunter where the prey shoots back.
