Was curious who else bow hunts public land for deer, and what do you make of your trip?

I bought the APH and will shoot for a permit on Lake Whitney. This will give me two locations to bow hunt. Its about two hour drive at either WMA, so I'm thinking of doing the camp out the entire weekend to get the most out of the hunt.

Was spoiled the last couple of years. I had a place to bow hunt about 20 minutes from the house.

I've Ben public hunting for 3 years now and for 48 bucks can't complain. Have had all the negatives of stand stolen to people walking up on me (once was at full draw on a doe) that's just part of it. Each year we have camped more and this year we have purchased a couple pop ups and plan on enjoying it just as much as a private deer lease.

I bow hunt public land, as long as you don't mind getting back into the woods a bit, away from those who hunt near where they park, you should have fun and see deer.

Good luck to all of you that have to hunt on public land. Have a great season and post some pictures of your hunt. Persistence pays off!

Been bow hunting public land in east Texas since the early 80's. It's all about puttin in the time in the woods and getting familiar with the area you're hunting. And it dont do no good to p*ss and moan about other hunters walking thru your set-up,it's public land after all, just make the best of it. Besides you're not gonna kill anything sittin on the couch at home watching football, except maybe a six pack! grin

Public is all I do hunt... The deer are there, just have to scout a little(lot)more. Like has already been mentioned...don't let the other hunters get you down... Its just part of the deal. Everybody has their secret spot( if only in their own mind) and you will too..

only hunt public land.....in 9 years of hunting public land I've only seen 1 hunter in the woods hunting....and it was some small game hunters....deer pattern hunters quickly and hunting off hours, in plain sight, and way out the way...depends on the area...pays off.....

I've hunted corp land for years then got booted for a year cuz I didn't turn in a yearly game report. So I found a deer lease from a member on here and what a disaster. The locals had a great time on my lease shooting and running 4 wheelers. Glad they enjoyed it cuz I didn't.. I'm back to public land and will not complain about seeing a guy in orange again once or twice.

Im all public for the first time this year. Price is right and other hunters gets things moving or at least that's what I like to think.
For me its a lot less stressful than leasing and when I kill something its gonna be more rewarding. Especially this year since I'm going traditional archery. I plan on spending all day hunting when I get to go. Deer pig or big raccoon. Its gonna be fun getting out there.

It ain't easy being me.
