I am going with my buddy to his lease next week and I know they have not been running the feeders for a while. Since there is no corn in the feeders & the oaks haven't dropped their acorns yet, what will the pigs be focusing on?

If it is still hot, they will have to come to water.

I plan on hunting water, but this lease is a couple thousand acres w/ multiple ponds. Was hoping I could somehow narrow it down by also focusing on a food source...

I would focus on any areas with loose soil, as the hogs will be rooting for grubs since the plants aren't producing yet.Could also focus on areas in the trees where grubs, mushrooms, etc could be easily found. Problem with hog hunting is finding them. They tend to be very sporadic with my lease and I spin corn for them. Within the last month I have had them hit my feeder 4 times, but not with any regularity or pattern. Hard time of the year to hunt period due to the heat and lack of real good food sources, or abundance of food sources depending on rain status.

Pittstate is correct for your specific question. Walk the water holes looking for sign, Also VIP Google map the area surrounding your lease for row crop such as wheat milo or corn. If you have crops nearby it is likely they have moved to the fields if there is crop for them to eat. At this time of year you are looking for milo or corn. Do you have water in the woodlines. If you only have ponds they have a tendency to seek water noon to two. Pigs are opportunistic game and can and will eat just about anything. If you have no recent pig signs find something else to concentrate on. We are either covered in pigs or have none

Although it says Extreme Tracker under the colt.45. its a missprint , haven't erned any points yet. they do same around here, follow the creek, last year found several wallows, just behind deer food plot & feeder, think got a pic or two on THF in different post, thar be a pond, little over 100yrds. they show up now an then on came, early & late. have sat several times, laser-tag. With me, its just about being in right place right time. Have had real good luck on ppublic land pudding one foot in front of de udder during hog only hunts. That was back in good ol days. even walking along ATV trails hogs had it all tore up. Usualy done at night, tis my thinking. During archery sat many hours day after day off the ATV trails, if seen or heard hog they was moving from point A ta B. pressure makes a difference. as pappy always say's: some times i like ta talk like i know what i'm doing best wishes. flag
